Unaware that ferry arrival at almost midnight was at a cargo terminal, miles from anywhere, no taxis but helped by kind crew member. Nervous as solo traveller but most accommodating receptionist guided me by phone into stay. Tramline on waterfront easy access to station. Only stopping point to Palermo - can’t judge attractions.

Messina is a pretty city in a beautiful spot that is off the radar for most travelers. The cathedral, rebuilt after the 1908 earthquake, is beautiful, with Byzantine mosaics in the apses that miraculously survived. The clock tower mechanical clock is spectacular even though it only operates once a day. The regional museum is full of treasures that were salvaged from churches destroyed in the earthquake. The highlights are two Caravaggios and an Antonello da Messina triptych. Interestingly, Messina appears not to promote itself. The tourist office seemed to always be closed. I ended up asking in shops what sights to see, how to get to them on busses, and for restaurant recommendations. Locals were very glad to help me with that information.

we stayed 4 nights, allowing enough time t spend in Messina as well as use it as a base to travel to other Sicily locations. it had great walkability although the sidewalks/curbs were a little challenging with a suitcase. the noon Duomo show was definitely a highlight

The town is Ok for a day & night.

The town is Ok for a day & night. The cathedral at 12pm is the biggest thing in town and it is worth a look for the curious. Note all the bars around the square have a surcharge just to sit down - which they don't advertise. Try the Sri Lankan restaurants around town, delicious food at a great price.

we only stayed 3 nights, the area we stayed was very busy not far from ferry crossings. We visited Taormina and Cefalu, 2 nearby cities. Didn't get to see much of Messina itself. Did visit beach which was very nice.

Messina doesn't have a lot of attractions - the Camponile was interesting to see at midday, as well as the Norman cathedral, for which you could really see the Mudejar influence - something I found surprising for Italy. OTOH, it also means there were fewer tourists about, which suited us to a tee. If you are into hiking, it looks like the mountains above the city would have some nice trails with views out over both the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas.

It was so cute how the host bought some pastries from the near by cafes for us! After traveling, I always want to eat and thank god there was already some yogurt, water, milk and pastries in the fridge! So cute and delicious! The mattresses are super comfortable and there is lots of natural light which makes it even more beautiful. There is also the beach 30 seconds away and also 30 seconds away from a grocery store which is a HUGE perk when you are in a pinch. The host provided extra toiletries as well and lots of towels- great stay!

The most welcoming and pleasant people in Aialnesh and her family. The apartment is fully equipped, so you can, cook, wash, dishwash, chill out in spacious accomodation, and with an astonishing view over Messina Strait from the terrace. After getting aqauinted with Messina, you have all possibility to reach rest of Sicily by public transport (I did Palermo and Taormina by train). When ever the smallest of questions Aialnesh and her family were quick in answering.

Really liked this place and its friendly hostess. It's very quiet, surrounded by nature, with beautiful overgrown lemon garden. The room is basic but very stylish and has everything that you'll need - good bed, AC, bathroom. I didn't remember the last time I slept so well! The hostess, Dina, is a great conversation partner and showed us around the garden and village. On top of that we've got a bunch of recommendations for best places in Sicily. Thanks again!

Exactly what I needed for Messina, as I wanted to stay in front of the promenade. Clean and spacious room, lovely balcony, cute breakfast, the lady that I met in the morning was very friendly. I parked my car exactly in front of the building, that was very convenient and it is free-white colored line. If u are hungry, try the pizza restaurant 50m on your left hand side, as you get out of the property :P I will go back to Blue Mediterraneo soon!

The host and his family were amazing. We arrived in Messina on the day of a huge concert, and there were no cabs available. The host drove to us at the ferry station on his scooter, helped us find the tram, drove alongside the tram, and had his wife meet us at the tram stop to take us to the B&B. They were so kind, and we remain so grateful. The room was fantastic too!

Great Period Hotel in excellent City Location. Staff were always helpful and ready to assist us. Only blemish, is the size of the shower (very small) but this is common in Sicily. However Sicily is now the new “Go to Destination” in Europe, if not on the planet, so larger showers would be a wonderful and welcome addition for future visitors from all over the world.

This is the nicest B&B in which we have stayed here in Sicily. It is modern (opened in 2022), comfortable, beautifully located overlooking the Straits of Messina from the spacious breakfast room and balcony, spotlessly clean and perfectly maintained. Eva (owner and designer) is welcoming, very helpful, and gracious. You cannot go wrong in selecting FuoriSquadra B&B!

Really clean, lovely room with ensuite, desk area, nice bed linen. Other than lack of natural light it was like a hotel room. Kitchen available where you can make tea/coffee. As others have mentioned, the lady who serves breakfast is very nice. The location is ok, but is up a long hill. Next time I'd choose a place closer to the rail station.

Very nice and clean apartment, spacious bathroom and comfortable bed. Short walk to the station and has a small lift to get up to the hotel. Parking on the street was a little difficult to find but we managed. Delicious breakfast was included, with a variety of foods and drinks. Fabio and the staff were very friendly and happy to help.

The staff were first class. The decor and the ambience was beautiful. Very well appointed and very peaceful. Breakfast was the best we’ve had on our entire trip! The room was comfortable and had great amenities. We weren’t wanting for anything. We would highly recommend your property. It was a great way to end our holiday on Sicily.

It was an easy walk from the central train station and only one block from the main square and half a block from tge waterfront, in a tree lined street surrounded by restaurants and bars. We were welcomed at the front door. The room was exactly as described and a perfect stay for a glimpse of Messina.

Just transiting overnight but what exceptional staff. Marcella at reception went above and beyond helping us- As did the night reception gentleman who also served us breakfast. The quality of the room was up there with some 5 star hotels we have stayed at. Definitely the best place in Messina.
