Great location in Vik, short drive from the Black Sand Beach
A lot was happening in this small town. Besides the iconic black sand beach, there were many restaurants, shops and markets. Several tours met in the town which made Vik a convenient spot to stay. We stayed only one night, but could have easily spent more time there.

The Smidjan brewpub provided excellent beers and delicious food. Vik has several helpful stores, including a hardware store, a grocery store, and the large Icewear store. There were several phenomenal hikes in the area (Reynisfjall mountain and Black Sand Beach right from town), and the Solheimajokull glacier and Kirkjufjara Beach a short drive away. We had a car, but it was easy and convenient to walk everywhere within Vik.

Vik was the big surpirse of this South Coast escapade.
Vik was the big surpirse of this South Coast escapade. I had been before at least 4 to 5 times, but only passing through to go somewhere else and taken a practical break at the mall in a group of tourists. Vik has a lot to offer and it is not all about the Black Beach and Dyrhóláey, but the village itself has its own charm and is a starting point for many thrilling activities on the South Coast. I would gladly return!

Must try black crust pizza.
Must try black crust pizza. The lookout point at Dyrhólaey panoramic views, don't miss it and of course the Black Sand beach. To visit the crashed US plane, either we can walk for 3 hours (both ways) or take shuttle which will cost ISK3000 per person.

Vik is a picturesque gem tucked along the country's stunning south coast! Reynisfjara Beach is easily accessible, where black sand meets crashing waves with towering basalt columns as the backdrop. The wind can get too strong which makes a part of the beach dangerous (sneaker waves warning), but it is still well worth visiting. The town is charming with cozy cafes (try the black crust pizza!), the locals are warm and welcoming. This town is the perfect location to embrace the opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in Iceland's raw beauty.
We arrived at the Vik Myrdal on a wet and windy Icelandic afternoon ahead of the scheduled check in, the staff were very accommodated and allowed us to check in a little early as our room was ready. We stayed in a family room that had a loft for the children, which they loved. Room included tea and coffee and had a large view to the mountains. Breakfast was plentiful and offered a great variety of foods.
We had a room in the hostel. It was huge! Enough space for all our luggage and camera gear. Very clean room with a comfy bed; king size and two separate duvets. Also a lovely location, very close to a famous black beach in Iceland and Vik an 8 minute drive away. Vik had an excellent burger bar (fun and hip) and The Barn had a great bar open until 23:30 to come back to and enjoy.
Lovely hotel, bright with large windows and lovely view overlooking the landscape of southern Iceland. Great place to stay close to Vik and regional sites. Delicious breakfast, comfortable rooms, nicely decorated & very welcoming.
Really lovely modern hotel, beautiful setting for breakfast. The lovely Scottish lady on reception was an absolute delight, along with Martin who provided a Northern Lights wake up call! A highlight of our tour of Iceland!
The cottage is very stylish and have all the amenities needed. Its very new and well kept. We loved the village (Vik). I definitly recommend it as the price quality ratio for iceland is very good
