It is an old city and has a market. If anyone plans for dudhsagar waterfalls, they can make a stay here. Beaches are for just relaxation with minimum options of party and water sports. Sure, we have options for cheap & best food and also we can try local goan food. Two or three days wills be more enough to experience the place if you are a kinda person to enjoy the local culture and food. You could choose to visit this place at the end of monsoon if hot weather is not suitable for you.

Just as Dabolim (airport) is the starting point for air-travellers, Thivim (for North Goa), Madgaon (for Central and South Goa) and Vasco (North Goa again) are the gateways for train-travellers. One can sure halt at Madgaon for at least 1-2 days, see nearby beaches like Majorda, Colva, Sernabatim and Banaulim beaches and plan out the rest of the itinerary for South/North Goan beaches - both locations almost equidistant eitherway !

Madgaon city is basically unfriendly and hostile to tourists especially when it comes to people from Mumbai. NO OLA or UBER....Taxis and private cars are looters, they just don't have conscience fleecing each and every strangers, tourists.
Railway administration is also the same.
It's all in their mindsets, impossible to change.
Always misguiding tourists if ask for any particular location
My personal advice....Goa is overhyped
Wanna enjoy beaches...I bet Kerala is much more beautiful and a perfect place for family.
- Brilliant stay, value for money, huge Rooms, great location as in not next to beach but right next to highway (NH66) making everything (colva beach, route to north Goa, city center) easily accessible. it is situated amid quite residential place. No swimming pool or garden / lawn like resort so this is basically stay over place, if you are looking for resort type stay then head to Novotel Dona Sylvia type of places. Manuel (Reception / Floor manager) was very helpful, informative. Loved HGM!!

The dorms were very well organised. The common bathroom was also neat and tidy. All the amenities mentioned were provided. The staff was also very helpful. Overall the hotel is very nice, providing pretty good amenities at a decent rate. The location of the hotel is like a cheery on top. It's just a 500m (10mins) walk from the Madgaon station. So you don't even need to take a taxi to get to this place.
Beds comfortable, good hot shower and place very clean. Staff super friendly. We stayed for 1 night as we had a super early train the following morning. Hotel is within walking distance to train station perhaps around 3 mins to closest exit. I wasn’t sure if at night the area would be ok to walk in (I was leaving at 5am) but staff said it was ok and it was.
The hotel was in an ideal and central location in South Goa about 10 - 15 mins drive away from the centre. The staff were very hospitable and accommodating, they even extended our stay on short notice which was very helpful. The rooms were clean and the facilities were great. I loved using the gym which kept me happy and the breakfast had a good variety.
