We didn't stay in the town which looked to be very busy but stayed at a resort which was located in a secluded valley outside the town. We did stay a few days in McLeodganj but it was too crowded and full of traffic pollution.

Dharamsala is a sprawling, working town in a very beautiful part of India. Unfortunately, the town does not match its surroundings and has little to offer the essential traveller. We went to watch Test match cricket in what is an impressive location but I would suggest that if the ground wants to hold more Test matches and T20s, then more investment needs to be made in the town itself in order to attract overseas visitors.

Dharamshala is a city in Himachal Pradesh that has a lot of attractions and natural scenery. It is the residence of the Dalai Lama and the center of Tibetan culture. It is also a place for spirituality, peace, and rejuvenation. It has two parts: the lower Dharamshala and the upper Dharamshala or McLeodganj. Some of the places to visit in Dharamshala are Dal Lake, Kangra Fort, Jwalamukhi Devi Temple, Tea Gardens, Bhagsu waterfalls and none but the least is the Dharamshala Ropeway

The traffic is poorly managed. The central part should not have ANY traffic, as is true of most European countries. There were NO pavements, and the roads were mostly too narrow to allow the vehicles, animals and humans to navigate in comfort. As a result, we could not go out for a leisurely walk - all we could do was to go from our hotel to the specific site that we planned on visiting, and back.

Dharamshala is good for the salubrious climate and a picturesque place which affords a breath-taking view of the Dhauladhar range of mountains. It has a lot of Tibetan monasteries and shops selling Tibetan food, products and medicines.
There are 4 shakthi sthals situated in the vicinity of Dharamshala. The Chinmaya tapovan is another worthy visit
Amazing hotel, with perfect views. Very quiet. Aparna the host was super friendly and super helpful to all our needs. Food in the restaurant was also great. The hotel is slightly out of the busy center of Dharamkot so required a little walking to see other places but for us- who wanted quiet and beautiful setting it was a perfect match. Will definitely come again. Note that as the hotel is high and requires climbing a lot of steps to the room. As generally this whole area is going up and down it was ok for us.

Visited Dharamshala for 3 nights. Clean rooms, very accommodating and friendly staff. The owner introduced himself and was very friendly. The roof top restaurant is quirky, very well designed and clean. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The views of the himalayas are also fantastic, and unspoiled, including from our balcony. Its a shame the weather was cloudy for most of trip.
Would recommend this hotel for foreigners. Hygiene is very good here.
This is a very good hotel located in the nice and quiet pleace with a beautiful view on city of Dharamshala, mountins and fields. The owner and manager Abishek is very helpfull and kind. The suff is polite and professional. I had a large clean and comfortable view and enjoyed my staying here. I can recommend Aashray villa to everyone.

Everything! Best hotel in India by far. Super clean and best customer service. For us it was actually a relief to find this hotel after our time travelling through India, which is very difficult to find a decent and clean hotel. Would definitely come back here, we actually stayed in 2 different times.

The best thing about the hotel was the breakfast. Dinner and in-room food were fine but the breakfast was exceptional. The staff was very cooperative and the receptionist named Abhishek was very gentle.
