Charlotte's Way B&B, hotel in Portumna

Set in Banagher, 24 km from Cross of the Scriptures, Charlotte's Way B&B offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a shared lounge.

Irish Brekky provided by our host Nicola was excellent in a wonderful old age setting in a wonderful old fully restored home. our host, Nicola, Provided us with the history of the original homestead, I think relating back to Charlotte Bronte. Chance to share some stories with other travellers over brekky Nicola has done a wonderful job of restoring the home to its original glory - and very proud of it. Worth mentioning that our original intention was to stay closer to Galway but bookings were not available due to school holidays and overseas tourists etc. However, we are glad that is how it worked out - as we were able to have a round of golf at the local course at Birr - absolutely superb course for all you keen golfers. Also, there was an annual music festival on in the main street of Banagher which we attended.

We had a lovely welcome from Caroline and she was warm and caring throughout our stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable and there was a little kitchen area with fridge, toaster and microwave we could use. The shower was great. Breakfast was wonderful and so was the service.

What an amazing Gem! Our hosts were absolutely brilliant. We made a very late last-minute booking, and she accommodated us - following up throughout our journey and stay to ensure all our needs were met. The glamping tent had everything one needs and more! It was beautifully decorated, cozy, and comfy. The breakfast room was absolutely fantastic. Every care was given in providing the weary traveller with nourishment and comfort. The location is brilliant - wish we had more time to explore but we will definitely be back. An amazing place to stay with friendly attentive hosts: highly recommended!

The Workhouse was interesting to see but we did not tour.

The Workhouse was interesting to see but we did not tour. The Castle was not visible from a close drive-by - one had to proceed down a drive to see. Enjoyed seeing all the cruisers docked along the Shannon. Restaurants sparse, but found a very fine pub to watch a football match. Precious little activity in town while we were there. It was a well-situated stop-off between The Burren and our next stop in the Boyne Valley.

Lovely town & the people were so friendly.

Lovely town & the people were so friendly. There could have been a bit more tourist shops to buy some gifts to take back, if you don't have a car to get into Galway city or other towns to buy these things it was a little lacking in that area.

There is an excellent Indian and Italian carry out restaurant in the centre of the town. There is also an Aldi in the town. Also Portumna is close to beautiful countryside and forest parks. We were visiting Flowerhill Equestrian Centre. For horse lovers this is an excellent facility, with a fabulous cross country course. We also visited Ballinasloe which is another lovely town, about 30 km away.

The swim area was our big attraction, but we also were...

The swim area was our big attraction, but we also were surprised at the walks, playgrounds, variety of supermarkets and cafes/restaurants, in general, it had everything you would want and central in relation to days out elsewhere if needed. But the weather was great that week too which helps a lot no matter where you are. Portumna house is run voluntarily and the people on the gate and in the house are very friendly and welcoming with lots of information. Don't skip a visit here, especially with the gardens in bloom. Overall, Portumna gets a thumbs up from this family

Glamping right in the middle of Portumna might sound strange but this is a wonderfully secluded location right off the main street. Shops are nearby. Lough Derg swimming centre & the local harbour are only a short cycle away so is the Portumna Bridge & Castle. The pod are very comfortable and the facilities are excellent. Dick Ridge, your host is a lovely man and he couldn't be more helpful. Anything you need or a suggestion for something to do Dick is your man.

    - Amazing B&B with super friendly owner - Perfect location at the edge of the main street in Portumna - Comfy beds (although the double bed doesn't really feel like a double, so small! Luckily we had 2 beds) - Amazing breakfast - Very clean, spacious enough and good bathroom Would definately recommend!
