swallows nest, hotel in Lismore

Set 33 km from Tynte's Castle, swallows nest offers accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking.

I booked this at very short notice as I was travelling alone and not sure what distance I would do on the day. Due to my own GPS it was difficult to find (mine didn't recognise Irish post codes etc) but Jacqui came to meet me and I was able to follow her. The room was lovely; spacious, clean and leading straight out to the garden.

Lovely heritage town with loads of history, imposing castle and beautiful river walks! Only one restaurant open past 4pm, a few nice cafes, but generally not many possibilities for food in the evening.

Lismore Castle gardens and art gallery are wonderful and well worth the entry price. We spent about 3 hours there and enjoyed it very much. There are local walks along St Declan's way and a lovely drive up to the Vee in the Knockmealdown mountains nearby.

Beautiful historic town with one of the most amazing castles in the country, steeped in history. So many famous people have had links to the castle including the Mitford sisters, Fred Astaire and JFK. Amazing gardens too. Beautiful town also with a fantastic visitors’ centre and lovely shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Shout out for Valerie’s Gallery - a beautiful shop full of Valerie’s hand made arts and crafts. Well worth a visit.

A very pleasant town with a most interesting cathedral and an excellent Visitor Centre (the virtual reality presentation of Lismore Castle should not be missed). Also of note is the small park in the centre of town, very well set out and with some excellent information boards.

Went to a variety show in Cappoquin near Lismore but went next day to races. Old castle in the town as well a car parking for the races. Interesting milestones to various towns. Road from Mount Mellary to Lismore but saw on map of a private short cut through Cappoquin Denmense. Would have paid to cycle through it.

Gorgeous house & garden 2 minutes walk from Lismore Castle. It really was so nice to stay in with lots of nice touches & felt loved compared to other soulless houses we've rented. The host was lovely. Great base as Cork, Youghal, Cobh, Dungarvan, Ardmore & Waterford are all within an hour. The Blackwater is only up the road & great for Kayaking. Lismore itself is small but between the Castle gardens, the park, the Cathedral etc there's alot to see. Good variety of food options within the town too.

I loved the warm welcome when I arrived the front door of the hotel was whipped open and a lady in a husky voice ushered me inside. She told me in sultry tones that she was a nurse and whispered alluringly at me that I was in room 5. I proceeded to follow her up the stairs, she was a little unsteady on her feet but we made it to the room, this all added to the intrigue. She told me she was in room 3 and told me not to snore. I didn't , I slept soundly. Simply lovely.

This is a beautiful B&B run by great hosts who have a good eye for detail. Closer to boutique hotel than B&B in the sense that it's larger than your average B&B. This means you have the benefit of the personal touch of B&Bs with the privacy of a hotel. The bedrooms are large and the furniture beautiful and in keeping with the building. Really liked the options for breakfast. Great location. A short walk into Lismore to view the gardens.

My visit coincided with the owners being away on holiday, however I was very capably looked after by Bridget. My flight to Dublin was delayed and I didn't arrive at the Hotel until 10pm. After passing through the gates Bridget was at the front door of the Hotel to greet me, explain how things worked and to show me to my room. She was very friendly and an absolute star throughout my stay.
