Stella Maris Luxury Bed and Breakfast, hotel in Doogort

Stella Maris is a family-run bed and breakfast ideally located on the beach front in Keel.

The location is perfect, but the historic building has lost its authenticity, giving the impression of being managed by a corporation rather than a family. The hall is very poorly furnished, which was quite shocking. Hopefully, this style does not extend to the rooms.

Doogort was peaceful and so relaxing.

Doogort was peaceful and so relaxing. There weren't any shops open while we were there over Easter, which was lovely. There might be more open during the summer. If we needed food we headed to Keel. The Beach Hotel in Doogort was open at the weekend and there were plenty of people in the bar but it closed again once Monday came. There are a few places to eat on the island, Mastersons bar being the closest. There is also a great wee place called Pure Magic which did lovely pizzas. The drive to Keel doesn't take long and has a few more bars and restaurants. If you want a quiet break with breathtaking scenery you're going to the right place. A drive to Keem Bay is definitely worth it but try to go early/late to avoid the crowds. We saw a seal coming out of the water and basking sharks not too far out in the sea.

    Beautiful surroundings and drives

Beautiful surroundings and drives We were there in November, and everything around us was closed, but we knew that from previous visits. Just be aware, in November, the nearest takeaway and off license is in Achill Sound, and the nearest shop is in keel. Would highly recommend the Beehive for lunch/cake and further out the the road, Gieltys for dinner...plus they run as shuttle bus. Make time to visit Achill Sea Salt and the Aquarium...they're both quite small, but have loads packed into them!

The holiday cottage was kept very well, it was spotless, roomy and had all that you would need including washing machine, dishwasher and electric showers! The beach was beautiful and there is lots of local history. The hosts provided lots of information on walking routes, it would make a great base for walking holidays. We are a family with 4 kids ranging in age from 12 down to 5 and they loved the beach and the house and were thrilled theres was wifi

    Doogort is

Doogort is picturesque .it has sandy beach and wide open spaces for children and adults to play and relax .it's quite widespread in terms of bars restaurants.so transport would be a good idea unless you like to walk .I stayed at Valley House hostel which is very basic .but has lots of rustic charm and comfortable bed .the bonus is a great bar on site .in terms of value for money at €20 I'd say it's good. But dont expect 5 ☆ luxury.
