Breakfast is good: omelette, small pancakes, toast, jelly, coffee and tea.
We booked 3 nights but couldn't arrive on the first day. The staff was very kind to shift our booking by one day without an extra charge.

The staff were nice and helpful ... really excellent. The property has a very unique and picturesque look ... it's made to look like traditional Toraja houses and that made it a special experience. So we had a great view from the balcony (see photos). The breakfast had sufficient variety and was of acceptable quality. We also appreciated the fact that the hotel offered a free shuttle service into town since the hotel is a little far out (which makes for the nice scenery, of course ... no complaint there).

The home stay was a little out of town which we loved as it meant the place was surrounded by nature with lovely views over the rice paddies. The host and his family made sure we were extremely well looked after during the whole stay. Breakfast was delicious, as were the dinners we had there. One night they made a traditional torajan dish cooked inside bamboo which was amazing and interesting to see how it was cooked. It was a relaxed vibe with the other travellers also.
We did 3 days of guided tours with Yacob which were great (funeral ceremony, mountain hike, buffalo market etc).

I loved my spacious room with the big bed and the wonderful view over the rice fields and mountain.
The staff were so helpful when I had problems with transport there and full of amazing tips to get to know the area.
WiFi was excellent, as I was working a lot.
I also thought the location was great, not right in the middle of busy, noisy Rantepao but walking distance from everything. I also rented a scooter from them.
And all this at great value. I’d love to come back!

You should explore the countryside and the villages. The colours and the views are amazing. People are warm and hospitable wherever you go. They are very cultural and want to keep it that way.
The food is varied and can be delicious if you do your research before you get there.

Rantepao is a perfect location to explore the Torajah area; Torajah is a mainly christian area on a mainly islamitic Island, with very typical ceremonies, often related to death and funerals.
We took the bus from Makassar which takes about 10 hours to get to Rantepao, but it is an interesting journey.

Amazing and outlandish culture and scenery surrounding the city. Traditional housing can even be seen within the city centre. The scenery outside Rantapao is glorious, and travel with a guide highly recommended to discover the intricacies of this very different culture, provide local employment, avoid causing offence or excessive traipsing on private/family land, and because a decent map is hard to find.
Take a day (or a few) in the city itself. It is safe and surprisingly sweet when you slow down and take it in. As in so much of Sulawesi, people are gentle, honest and kind.

Perfect place to stay (better a bit out of the city center)...
Perfect place to stay (better a bit out of the city center) to enjoy nature and explore the area of Toraja. The city itself not much to do except some good restaurants but a great starting point for excursions in the Toraja region.
loved everything about this place - it is not fancy, but it is very clean and the Hostess is fantastic. we arrived late and she made dinner for us when we got there. The traditional meal she cooked the next day was also great, chicken in bamboo. There is a full bathroom outside the house with a hot water shower, western toilet and two sinks - very clean. The traditional house would not be able to accommodate a bathroom in the building itself. This is an experience to stay in real Toraja house - it is not a fancy hotel - but it is great!!
The place has everything you need - a great and affordable setup for domestic and international travellers with hot water, really delicious and filling breakfast options for an extra 25.000 and 24 hour free tea, coffee and water refill. The owners, Rosalina and Enos are lovely - they helped us with any questions we had and stored our luggage when we went trekking. Because it's a homestay it's a much nicer experience than a generic hotel. The place has a simple charm to it with views of rice field and is very comfortable.
Staying in a tongkonan is a once in a lifetime experience, Aldi and his family do their best to make sure you have a pleasant stay in their homestay, i had a good time. This special place is not far from Rantepao, but in the countryside, so the atmophere is quiet and relaxed, i even had the chance to have real indonesian/toraja dinner and breakfast with them. You can also have a glimpse of real toraja life when they show you how they feed their animals or collect the local beverage from the trees.
Sanduk offers 2 nice and clean double rooms in the ground floor and two super rooms in the 1st floor; one of them king-size. Ibra, the owner, is extremely kind and helpful. He serves a nice breakfast in a terrace overlooking a quiet neigborhood. The homestay is located at a five minutes walk to Ke Te Kesu. No problem if the center of Rantepao is at some distance, Ibra is always ready to take or pick you up to/from the downtown for free. Definitely one of the best accomodation options in Rantepao
Probably the best place and experience we've ever had. It's a bit more expensive than your regular accommodation but if you can spend an extra 10 euros a night come here, it's so so worth it. If you've been traveling for a while in SE Asia this will feel like a 5 star hotel. The host is so accommodating, her tour was incredible and the food is the best we've had in Indonesia. Hope some day we can come back here.
Riana and her family were simply the best hosts I’ve met! I was there with my 3 months old baby girl. Her husband Mr. Daud offered a great 3 day tour for a very reasonable price. Anything we needed, they were there for us. Mr. Daud also took us to the bus station by car. If I ever come back to Rantepao, I’ll stay here and will recommend further.
SARAH, the owner, is amazing. If you stay anywhere else in Rantepao you have dropped the ball.
I real homestay and felt like party of the FAM.
Especially, making dinner with CHEF Melissa. I got the Sambal recipe I have been looking for!
There is a reason the Lonely Planet highlights the Castle for Toraja! Don’t stay anywhere else!!!!
What a lovely homestay! Everything is done with love and attention. A warm welcome by the family, fantastic food, lovely rooms with a spectacular view. And no noise, only the sounds of nature 😊( in Rantepao the mosk will wake you up early in the morning, or great chance there is a karaoke bar somewhere).
Highly recommended!
Conveniently located in Rantepao, and a good base for your local tours. It was clean and had a pool for cooling off and restaurants on site. The property was very pretty! A good option if you are looking for more than just the basic accommodations elsewhere in the region. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The family was very kind and Yansen was great guide. Yansen showed us all the interesting places around Rantepao and shared his personal knowledge and experiences about the culture which was super interesting. The food in homestay was the best food I have had in Indonesia. The location was peaceful and beautiful.
The room is clean and the space is huge.
The owner Mr Raub serves a delicious breakfast, especially that glass of juice, better then outside restaurants.
Honestly, it's worth it then you paid.
Like other Sulawesi people I have met, Mr Raub is a very helpful and friendly owner too.
Staff at the hotel were very friendly. Food in the restaurant during dinner time was good and service impeccable. Reception staff had great follow-up on specific requests that we had and they even made a birthday cake for our son.
The staff was the best. The hotel is basic, but very cozy, clean, well located nearby the center (10 mins walk), has some nice views and a delicious kitchen. They are very helpful with travel info, buses, private cars...
beautiful hotel in very quiet place with the spacy rice field view. Also the location is very comfortable. Super clean room, great food from its restaurant, caring staff,. definitely recommended.
Great location in walking distance to the centre of Rantepao, in the middle of rice fields (nice walks through the neighbourhood recommended). Spacious room and lovely hosts.
