We loved the two beaches we went to. The old town is lovely, and we love staying in it. Surrounding shops and facilities have everything you need, they are close and easy to access.

They developed the services a lot, really good small pebble covered beach in a huge bay protected from high winds by Brac island in front of the bay. Many good restaurants, OK parking, nice port with old buildings in great condition. The apartments are usually higher up on a steep mountain side, providing a harder walk but a better view :)
We drove over from the opposite side of the Adriatic sea, so we could compare it with the Italian side (Jesolo area), and the prices were almost the same, the pebble beach maybe better (at least clearer water than the sandy beach across), less windy, but still missing the happiness coming from the Italian people, and the highest quality in food and entertainment, Croatia a bit more laid back, things are not a smoothly organized as on the Italian Adria. The only thing really bothersome is the restaurant stuff coming over a few seconds after you start reading the menu placed in front of their places. They do not give you any time to read it through. I know in some countries they do this, but I always leave when they do not give me time to choose based on the menu.

Makarska is a smaller town, but you find most of what you need. Do not expect big malls. There is however one shopping mall that covers electronics, clothes, shoes and other items.
You find a nice harbour, some churches, a local market.
There are plenty of restaurants there, something for everybody.
There are many water activities and things to do, excursions with boats, jetski... The water is super clean and clear.

I have visited the city of Makarska many times. I love it there, despite the long journey (from Slovakia). I like everything about Makarska, from the delicious smell of the bakery, to the number of people who "mingle" there, evening walks in the harbor, beautiful clear sea and amazing views.

Nice place for 5+ days holidays. A walk around the lightshouse and St Peter's statue is recommended, especially in the evening, at sunset. Plenty of restaurants and bars, including near the beach. The offer is similar, but the staff and the location make all the difference. Some are near the beach, other benefit of mountainview, so everybody can choose what they like. We ate at Berlin, Mucron, Bounty and Street Food, all of them were good, especially Bounty (though a bit expensive).
Careful at bikers and scooters when driving, they also make a lot of noise during the evening and early in the morning.
Our favourite stay on our Croatian holiday. The location is perfect, you will struggle to find a better place to stay. Short walk to both centre and beaches. Off the road parking within property grounds as well. Hosts are lovely and available for anything. We are a family of four, with a 1 year and 3 year olds. We found our stay very comfortable and safe. Children were happy. The layout of the property worked very well for us. When we return to Makarska we will not hesitate to stay here again.

Having traveled all over the world staying at many famous hotels, I can say, that Valamar Hotel offers the world's BEST breakfast, It was amazing! The location is perfect, and we really enjoyed our stay.
The Staff were wonderful and attentive, always smiling and welcoming. I can't wait to return to Valamar Makarska!
Excellent hotel, excellent location, helpful staff, they answered all our questions and helped us with what we were looking for. The view is incredible. Cleanliness is at the highest level. Wi-fi works great, the beds are one of the most comfortable I've slept on. We are looking forward to coming back to Makarska and will definitely choose this accommodation.
The accommodation was exeptional. I never stayed in place that is more cleaned, everything is like new(clean like a 5star hotel).It had everything that person would need. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Location is circa 5min to beach and 10 to city center. I honestly recommend this apartments. Just perfect😊👌
Hosts were very nice. This was the best place we have stayed in Croatia. Apartments are modern, very clean and fully equipped. It has free parking. There was a big terrace with sea view and furniture where we stayed most of the time. We felt like home, it was very calm and quiet place. Perfect for relaxing and vacation time. Though the hotel does not have its own garage we always found a parking spot within 1-2 minutes' walking distance and the city parking card they gave was valid everywhere in Makarska. I would happly come back anytime.
We loved the cleanliness of the room and the balcony with the view of the mountain, but the BEST thing was Zivka's hospitality. She even gave us a ride to a big supermarket nearby on arrival so we could get some groceries at good prices for our stay. Heard of any other hosts doing that for their guests? Everything. Probably the best place in Makarska. The apartment is very practical and cozy. Two balconies: one overlooks the mountain and the other overlooks the sea. Convenient location: 10 minutes to the sea and embankment, 5 minutes to the city mall and Lidle. Highly recommend and will definitely stay here again next time.
This is the best apartment in Makarska. The owner is very kind and friendly. This apartment is fully equipped, clean and new even better than a 5 star hotel. The balcony is huge, there is a clean jacuzzi with a beautiful sea view. Makarska centre (market, bakery, restsurants) is about 3 minutes walk.
Spotless and comfortable hotel, situated in a green area, very close to the beach. Great variety of food for breakfast. Very kind and professional personnel. I also liked the size of the balcony and the bathroom area. You can make a reservation for private use of spa and jacuzzi area.
