Simple barn conversion studio apartment in a stunning spot right by a tranquil bay, shaded by tamarisk trees. Friendly staff and a nice taverna. Perfect for complete relaxation. We’d seen these rooms on previous visits to Frangkocastello and felt lucky to find availability for our brief 2 night stay. The studios weren’t amazingly modern but were comfortable and had everything we needed, and we would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful one night stay at this cute, Traditional but super cosy hotel and would certainly stay again for longer. Its convenient for the beach, peaceful and the staff super friendly, with the option of a wonderful breakfast a real bonus.
It also has access to a lovely cosy peaceful beach with crystal clear sea with a seperate relaxed family beach bar ( NOT the noisy loud music kind ) that has occasional live music nights and the sunbeds are FREE for hotel guests.
A complete chillout place, perfect for complete relaxation and we have now added this place to our favourites!

We had a gorgeous view of the beach and the sea from our balcony. Artemis and Michaelis, the owners, were extremely friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was delicious. All cooked by Artemis’s mum, Maria. We stayed three nights and ate there twice. It’s a good place to stay if you want to walk Imbros Gorge which is less than 10k away. There is also a supermarket and a great bakery/cafe just across the road.

I liked the hosting family very much, who did their best to make us comfortable after we complained about our first night there with no hotwater or view of Sea as advertised.We were moved upstairs to a better room. We enjoyed walking to the bakery for fresh bread and baked goods and a good supermarket was near. Also a good bay for swimming and lots of naturewalks in area but you need a car. Took ferry to Agia Roumeli whereas walked to a part of the Samaria gorge from the south

We are regular visitors to Frango.
We are regular visitors to Frango. It is a beautiful quiet location with a great selection o. While there are 4 or 5 tavernas near the Venetian castle tavernas ( Avoid Drousillites) the rest are spread out over 3/4 kilometres from Vatalos (Sfakia direction) on the west to Zorbas (highly recommended on the east (Plakias direction)
Three distinct beach areas
1. Orthi Amnos long golden beach reached directly by steps near the beautiful Paradisos/Fata Morgana complex.
2. The Venetian castle again golden sands and water that remains shallow for a couple of hundred metres so very suitable for young kids or nervous swimmers/paddlers.
3. Near Stavros Taverna and Stavris Apartments and and stone beach with free sunbeds under shady trees. ( buy a drink or meal at the tavernas.
Frango stretches over a flat plateau-like area (about 6Km X 3km oval shape locked between the Libyan sea and the impress Lefka Ori mountains close to the IMBROS GORGE. A car is very useful but not essential. Bicycles are wonderful alternative and some apartments provide these complimentary. For us the heart of the community is the Taverna Kali Cardia (Good Heart) run by Thanassos and his son Alexi. Always good company and with fabulous traditional home-cooked Cretan meals. We have been travelling here for over 25 years and regularly encounter friends on return visits in this homely taverna.

We loved southern Crete.
We loved southern Crete. Much less built up and touristy than the north. The beaches are nice and gently sloping - amazing turquoise water. We had a day when the wind was really blowing but otherwise it was beautifully calm and enjoyable. Great place to explore more of the southern coast from.

the accomodation we stayed in didn’t fullfill our expectations, but for just staying the night was it ok. Definitely recommend the beach. It is beautiful with just few people and amazing views, sand beach and sea. I also recommend the taverna above the beach, it was very tasty and for a perfect price. The best trip we made was the Imbros gorge, even though there were a lot of people but it was very nice.

It's 15th year of my family's holidays there. We really love the city and all surrounding places. It's impossible to get bored.
I really love Vatalos Taverna and their family's concept for traditional cretan cuisine, cleanliness and friendship. Corali is a new nice discovery for us, after a short visit 2 years ago to one of their music nights.
Very pleasant stay at Paradisos in the less touristic part of the island. The apartment was very clean, specious, well equipped and conformable with a large terrace overlooking the sea. The beach over the street was actually the one we liked most in the area.
Well stocked stores are available in a short distance via car and there are two tavernas close to the accommodation for which you don't need to have a car.
I saw some old reviews mentioning the lack of air conditioners, but we had both fans and air conditioners in each rooms.
The location is perfect. The hotel is just a few metres from a gorgeous sandy beach. The room is good value for money. What I liked most about it was the private balcony in the garden, with a view of the castle, the mountains and the sea, ideal for those who want to take their breakfast privately and enjoy nature. The restaurant, the same as the hotel, low prices but delicious food and great view. The staff are friendly and helpful people. Don't forget to try the local cheese pies served with honey made by the kind hospitable owner.
I highly recommend this familly run hotel! The personnel is very kind and the rooms while they are small,they are vey clean and with excellent wifi. There is also a nice restaurant in the hotel in which we enjoyed delicious local food! The most important is that rooms and hotel have beautiful view on the Lyvian sea! The hotel is on a 2 min walking distance from one of the best beaches in Crete!Excellent value for money!We will come back for sure!
We have stayed at Fata Morgana 4 times before and love the place and the family that cares for it. We were impressed by the upgrades since our last visit. We love it so much that I hesitate to give a rave review because part of what we love is that the area is not crowded with tourists. Quiet beach (with a clothing optional section), lots of tavernas within walking distance, lots of wonderful walks and hikes all over SW Crete.
The location is perfect, about max 10 minutes walk to the beach. The house is perfect for 4 persons, and very clean. The cleaning service in every few days is an added bonus. The lady at the property is just as a second grandma for the stay -always helpful, friendly, bringing fruits as well. Everything worked excellent. If we come to Crete again, we would like to stay again. Clear recommendation from us.
Everything was perfect, the rooms were comfortable and very clean with amazing views to the sea and the mountains. The owners are lovely and very helpful. :) The restaurant is just below the hotel with local tastes well prepared and served. One of the best in Frangokastello!

Simplicity at its best. Zen tranquility, good beds, clean room and bathroom, fantastic views, nothing unessential. Family running the hotel with love & care. Go here if you appreciate charm and simplicity, go here to rest, read, enjoy nature and a peaceful atmosphere. Don't go here f you require luxury or if you need to be entertained - in that case, pick a more touristic area.
Awesome location, I'd say probably the best in Frangokastello. Very nice and friendly staffs. You can snorkel in the private beach of the hotel with their snorkeling equipments. They helped us in planning our Loutro trip as well. Nice food in the hotel, as well as very nice tavernas right outside. If you wish to relax, this is the place.
Wonderful views. Very hospitable host who provided water raki and olive oil. The setting is superb in a tranquil olive Grove overlooking Frangokastello. The swimming pool is super with access to self-service tea, coffee, water, ice etc a real plus. Poolside equipment umbrellas beds and lilos also available free of charge.

location is just speechless, 30 mins from Sfakia. you are surrounded by nature and nothing else. just few steps and you have this cliff and down below a private beach.

Very beautiful hotel with a lot of charm. The staff was very friendly. Spacious room with s beautiful sea view and yet very affordable. The breakfast was great as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will come again.
This was a nice hotel in a good location, right next to Frangokastello. It was easy to walk to the beach under the castle for a swim. The room was nice ... not fancy, but we were happy with it.
