Room was very spacious , breakfast was excellent. The hotel is situated in the perfect spot to walk everywhere in the old town. All of these things are worth going staying here for, but the best thing about our stay in the Alcanea was Eva, who is so welcoming and helpful, the best advertisement for the hotel. Very picturesque (old harbour and streets off) Kept very clean with frequent rubbish collections. No itinerant street vendors. Restaurants mainly traditional greek + italian no persistent "hustling" to partake. Varied selection of shops from tourist to top end. Traffic free around harbour. Boat trips and horse and carriage tours from harbour side. Several museums to visit nearby all walkable, though the new archeological museum is a good hike along the coast. Note that the famous covered market is not functional at the time of writing (no roof) and whist it is a impressive building, not much is happening construction wise.

The town still has charm and character.
The town still has charm and character. There are lots of delicious restaurants, and if you look around it doesn’t have to be expensive.
It was beginning to get busy by mid June, too many people for me. So earlier or later would be better .
There are quite a few artists, workshops which are worth visiting. Crafts need to be kept alive .

It is very picturesque and easy to walk around.
It is very picturesque and easy to walk around. A vast selection of restaurants. They are quite pricy compared with other parts of the island like Hersonnisus where we were staying for longer. Parking overnight was also expensive - £25. However I felt that the car was safe and secure and they were very helpful at finding you a place to park. Many of the restaurants only wanted cash. A charming port and a great place to people watch and chill.

In the past couple of years Chania has become VERY crowded.
In the past couple of years Chania has become VERY crowded. I would say to avoid it completely in July and August. Along with more tourism there are more shops selling junky souvenirs not from Greece. But we persisted and found some lovely high-quality things made in Greece. We rented a car but I wouldn't bother again as it's so congested and hard to park when you return from a day trip.
We loved the restaurant Salis along the waterfront and went twice. A store called Haris Cotton sells nice quality linen clothes. The tiny folklore museum was interesting. We did a walking tour of the artisans of Chania and it was good.

Crete is a must island to visit! Chania Town is beautiful.
Crete is a must island to visit! Chania Town is beautiful. If you are ever in Crete you should also visit Iracleio, Knossos, Ayios Nicolaos, Spinalogga, Rethymo, Arkadi monestary, Elafonisi, Balos, and Falassarna.
Port Front room I believe 3rd floor or higher. 3 weeks through Crete can’t remember. Once you close your balcony doors sound proof to happenings on walk. Beautiful 5 nights. 2 on my own, 3 with a group of fiber artists. Staff were amazing and very helpful. Love the location. Perfectly located without being in the thick of tourists. Loved to sit on boardwalk and have a cocktail. Breakfast buffet was amazing. My first trip to Greece and your hotel was the first meeting of the wonderfully warm and delightful Greek people. Loved it!
Helena Hotel is the best experience we had on Crete. The room was super clean and well equipped, but what the most important – is the view of the city center from your window. I found extremely satisfying just watching the city living, and our room was the best spot for it. Great thanks to the guy from the reception (I am so sorry not remembering your name!) who recommended many delicious places to visit. We covered several of them and every time it was something worthy.
Will return to spend more time there.
Highly recommended
Everything was just amazing! The hotel itself very beautiful, restaurant with excellent food (don't need to look for better place to eat)! Good pool facilities. Staff very very helpful, friendly, they make your staying in this hotel unforgettable. Andreas is wonderful host, he will give you the best advice on where to go and what to do (don't need to make plan earlier). Easy access to Chania by bus or by foot. I highly recommend this place to spend a wonderful time in Crete ! We couldn't have been more pleased.
Perfect location, right next to the heart of Old Town Chania. Walking Distance to loads of great restaurants, sights, shopping, and views. The room itself was delightful with everything you needed for a great stay. Lampros was such a great, welcoming host. He provided recommendations to a number of restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner options. If you stay here, I would highly recommend his choice of Oinopoiio for dinner, that was our best meal for sure. I would stay here again when we return to Crete.
I will never forget this hotel. Lovely staff, beautiful room view (I had the room with the terrace), excellent wifi, best location right in the center. The staff helped me organize two amazing days in Crete. It was a very special place and I wished I stayed another night. I was working remotely too and while that is not the best option in Chania, this hotel was a really good place to do that. The staff also had excellent restaurant and food recommendations. They were very warm and helpful.
It was a great little flat, very quietly located and lovingly furnished. Everything you need on holiday and more was there. It is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk along the coast of Crete to the centre of Old Town.
Tammy was our contact person on site and helped us with all questions and concerns immediately and absolutely professionally. Even restaurant reservations were taken care of. That simply rounded off the luxury. If we come to Chania again, we will ask for the accommodation again.
The location is amazing, is literally in the old town, where everything happens. 5 minutes walk to the bus station so it’s easy to move in the island.
The room was very clean and very cute, and everybody was taking photos of the building; it was adapted to the culture and architecture of the town.
The staff was very very nice, explained us different activities to do, how to move around Crete, provided us with a map, and solved all our doubts.
Definitely would recommend it.
Everything. The place, staff, location of the apartment. The beds were amazing. We could choose the type of pillow. The staff was very nice to us. They helped us with probably everything. We wanted to get on the other side of island and the ladies from the hotel ordered us an car with super price and even they manage that the car came to us to the hotel. Really we couldn´t find a better place to stay in Crete.
The best thing about this hotel is its location, it's at the heart of the old town of Chania and within walking distance of everything you want to see and do at Chania. It's also relatively close (<10-min walk) to the main bus station, which is quite convenient in case you want to take the bus to go to the nearby beaches or attractions. The staff members were also very friendly and helpful.
The location was perfect! It is in the middle of everything. If you are planning to stay just for few days all the places like the port, new town, old town etc are a very short walkable distance for the hotel. The rooms are big and very clean with balcons viewing the city center. The breakfast is very simple and tasty with the best fresh orange juice i have ever tasted.
Everybody at the Balance Hotel is very friendly and helpful, and try their best to make you feel welcome and give you very useful information for your stay in Crete. The rooms are wonderful and very big, and also very clean. On top of that, the position is Perfect to reach the most beautiful parts of the city. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Chania!
Amazing service, the lady at the front made the stay the best stay possible. Always checking in with us and even giving us food and drinks every day. The very best service you could ever imagine. The location of the hotel is in the centre of town and can’t get beaten. Wouldn’t pick anywhere else to stay in Crete. Clearly the place to go! 10/10 every single time.
We booked 5 nights at the start of our holiday in Crete. Chania is a gem and we had a great time. Small hotel in side street leading to seafront about 50 metres away. Excellent, central location in old town. Large, clean and comfortable room with kitchenette, air con and small balcony with sea view. Excellent breakfast included at taverna right next door.
This place is in a great location in old town, right near a square with many restaurants and a free concert on our last night there. Walking distance to the beach, bus station and everything you need. Dimitris provided a lot of recommendations on what to do in Chania and Crete which was very helpful!
The location is great. Nikos and the family are super hosts, very friendly and professional. The hotel is super clean and the breakfast is very rich and exceptional in a very calm terasse between trees and flowers. If we go back to Crete we will book the same hotel for sure.
Excellent staff! You will be in good hands. Great breakfast and coffee. The location is a walking distance from the old town.
We stayed here as it was easy to explore Chania and top beaches on the Crete (1-2 hrs away)
I spent one night at the hotel before getting on my flight back home. Wonderful view over Chania and close the airport. Exactly what I needed! Great breakfast and wonderful pool to enjoy my last day on Crete!
Really good location in old town, with plenty of restaurants around. The host gave us a lot of recommendations for places to eat, drink, things to visit and the best beaches.
Simply perfect
Breakfast was the best. The hotel was in old town so you can visit the most beautiful streets in Chania just by walking. You are in the middle of everything.
perfect hotel, everything felt new and fresh, many sunbeds and a good pool to cool off in. this was the best of 4 hotels we visited in our time in crete.
