Really nice inn with a fantastic owner and phenomenal staff. They were super accommodating with me, and both the dinner and breakfast were great, really good portions and super tasty. The room was perfect for one person and very comfortable, I slept like a baby. The locals were also very helpful regarding bus timetables, which was highly appreciated.

Wigton as a town would not rate highly as a tourist venue.

Wigton as a town would not rate highly as a tourist venue. It was a friendly but run down sort of place with few attractions. However, the cottage we stopped in was well located for many attractions in the neighbouring area.

As ex- Cumbrians, we were married & living in Cumbria for 45 years,we always advise friends to avoid the tourist places in the Lakes & head to the coast & villages like Wigton. Far less crowded, excellent accommodation and less expensive.

Wigton is just outside of the Lakes.

Wigton is just outside of the Lakes. There is almost nothing in the small town, pub, few shops. The hotel is surrounded by fields but there is another pub about a 15 minute walk along the main road - we never tried it, never had a torch!. Bowness on Solway is not far from Wigton, quiet village but fantastic views across the Solway, worth a visit. It is about a half hour drive to Keswick and all the life there.

I really like Wigton, although I may be biased as my daughter and her family live there! Wigton may not be typically pretty and characterful like some other nearby places, but as a little market town it offers an eclectic mix of independent shops, traditional butchers, bakers, greengrocers and small galleries as well as some more well-known names such as Greggs, B&M, Lidl and Co-op. (And, like many small towns, it has a fair selection of charity shops!) There are also takeaways and an Indian restaurant, but we didn't use these so I can't really comment on them. Although it has several pubs, I have to be honest and say none of them were particularly good, which is a great shame. Wigton doesn't have any places to stay over (believe me, we've searched!) but if you stay anywhere close then Wigton is certainly worth at least a little look around and has enough shops to supply you with all you might need during your stay.

The property is in a working farm, so the children loved seeing the baby cows. Wigton is just a few miles away with shops and supermarkets. There's a good variety of places to eat, plus the coast is only 12 miles away in Silloth, a nice little seaside town. The owners could not be more helpful, even providing little toys for the kids to play with and all Covid safe! We will definitely come back as this visit was far to short!

The property was large and spacious.! I loved the kitchen, so well equipped and of a high standard it had everything I needed. Lovely bathroom. Spacious sitting room with round dining room table and chairs, on street parking for free. We'll situated in a thriving little town of a Wigton. Lovely locals. Near to Northern Lakes and coast. Lots to do and see.

Spotlessly clean, a very pleasant & attentive host with a lovely welcome pack of essentials, including a smashing homemade cake. Great location for the Solway Coast & Northern Lakes… We chose this to be close to our favourite restaurant “Scran” in Wigton, who champion local produce.. and will definitely stay again for our next Cumbrian trip.

Substantial and tasty breakfast, very comfortable spacious room (room2 ground floor double), location in the countryside outside of Wigton - road and rail line nearby but little sound heard. Bunnies on the lawn 🙂 My second stay, will stay there again
