We love Northumberland and visit twice a year at least. Dene Croft Cottage is decorated to a high standard and is very clean, cosy and comfortable. We loved it and location is perfect.
Choices limited in terms of eating out but the food is excellent and more choice only a short drive away. We will definitely visit again soon.

A large and well appointed bedroom and a hearty breakfast. Conveniently located in the centre of the village with dining options nearby. Shaftoes made a perfect one night stop over on our tour of Northumberland. Our host Lois offered us a welcome tea and biscuits on arrival

Spacious on ground floor with outside space and parking. It was very well equipped including washing up / cleaning materials and warm. Everything worked although I struggled with the WiFi - might be my phone!?
It was a very peaceful location.

Great small hotel in a brilliant spot for visiting Hadrian’s Wall.
Two things in particular stood out- the food and the service. The food at breakfast and dinner was outstanding in taste and presentation. The bar/waiting/reception staff were extremely professional, efficient and pleasant. They worked wonderfully as a team.

Nice clean room, Bed was a bit uncomfortable, could do with a new mattress.
Wi-fi signal is not very good but that is not the owners fault.
Plenty of tea coffee etc. hairdryer.

It was what I expected.
It was what I expected. It was very rural, but wonderful for a city dweller to sample country life, from shooting parties to exceptional night skies, sunsets & sunrises, to pheasants and partridges running around everywhere. There were options to drive to nearby market towns on country roads to enjoy surrounding areas, or simply walk the trails to take in the views in the clean country air. It was wonderful.
The owners had only just been in the Hotel a few weeks and had had a lot to do to get it to the standard it was to receive guests. Only open five days when we arrived. Because of this there were a few teething problems, so some of my scores were a little lower than they could have been.
Breakfast choices were good, particularly enjoyed the full 'English' fried breakfast. Rooms were clean and comfortable, with tea/coffee making facility. Location was rural and quiet, with nice beer garden. The restaurant/bar food menu was good, enjoyed the three evening meals we had.
The hotel is located amongst stunning scenery with fantastic views. Upon arrival we were made most welcome by the owner and her family. Nothing was too much trouble The quality of food was excellent. I can't think of anything else to say about thus hidden gem.
Lovely clean and comfortable room overlooking the River. Jennifer and Robert were welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. We had two evening meals and the food was outstanding. Hotel well situated for visiting Hadrians wall.
The food was first class, the best breakfast I’ve ever had at a hotel etc we had dinner one night also which was beautifully cooked and presented, would highly recommend the elks head inn just for food alone!
Hotel is set in a stunning location, along the side of a river. Extremely peaceful.
Food was excellent, we had evening meal and breakfast. Both excellent.
Staff were really friendly and helpful.
Hotel was quint but unfortunately we asked for river/garden view but we're given view over car park so not what my conformation said, room was tiny & tv on wall was approx 19"
