Village Pub with rooms, busy and lively on the Easter weekend. I arrived after the kitchen shut but they kindly fired up the stove again and supplied me with a tasty meal. Cheerful and friendly staff for whom nothing was too much trouble even after a busy day. Breakfast was good. Big carpark behind the pub, which is in a small village just off the A1.

The bed in the old section was very hard. After we asked for a possible room change we were offered a mattress topper- which worked really well.

We loved walking the extensive grounds and appreciated the size of our room. Our bathroom alone was the size of some hotel rooms. The port tasting was fun. The highlight was the owl and hawk experience, which was beyond fabulous. The place has a great and very accommodating staff.

It is a very pleasant, quiet village with attractive buildings and the bonus of two pubs. The river Ure runs through it and is magnificent. An added plus is that it is close to the many attractive places to visit in the area.
