The Moorhead Bed & Breakfast, hotel in Wem

Offering a garden and garden view, The Moorhead Bed & Breakfast is situated in Wem, 42 km from Telford International Centre and 44 km from Trentham Gardens.

Everything, from the warm greeting on arrival to the excellent room and fantastic breakfast. Knocked spots off the 5 star hotel I stayed at in early March at a faction of the price. Please note, The Moorhead is in a very rural location. If you must have a town or city around you then don't book but if you value peace and tranquility with nothing but bird song this is the place for you. If you need to stay connected then there is excellent Wi-Fi and TV in your room. The beautiful, wide ranging, breakfast includes freshly laid eggs on the premises and the most tasty, to die for, sausages. Very, very highly recommended.

TO be honest we stayed because the hotel was near to Shrewsbury. Wem itself looked a bit of an economic disaster with a lot of closed or run down shops. It had clearly seen better days so we didn't bother looking round it having driven through it.

Wem is a nice little town tucked away in beautiful countryside just north of Shrewsbury. People there are so friendly and nice and it is a quiet little town. It is a short drive to Shrewsbury and only 30 miles from the beautiful RAF Museum Midlands, which is a must see if you are in the area.

Windows in bedroom in terrible state of repair.

Windows in bedroom in terrible state of repair. Shower constantly changed from very cold to very hot. No proper wardrobe - just hanging space. Couldn't charge to the room from the bar - had to leave credit card behind the bar!!! No drawers in the room. Very, very hot and only one very small fan. Extractor fan in bathroom didn't work. Often no-one at reception. Had to use phone to call someone and often no-one came. Only saving grace was the food. Very good and catered for dairy and gluten free diet.

Our visit was solely for the purpose of getting together with the family and so we stayed in the hotel and sadly we didn't have an opportunity to visit Wem, so I can't offer any opinion on the attractions of the town.

A very nice market town in the middle of lovely Shropshire.

A very nice market town in the middle of lovely Shropshire. Great places to eat, including 2 Indian restaurants, including the excellent Junoon. The (historic) Castle pub, in the High Street does great breakfast, from 9am at weekends. And in the High Street, there's also a really top notch independent bookshop - The Wem Bookshop (8. The High Street). Wem has its own railway station, well situated on the edge of the town, with a 2-hourly service between Shrewsbury and Crewe. There is also the hourly 511 bus service, which runs through Wem, between Shrewsbury and Whitchurch.

A really enjoyable break, but not what was expected! Soulton Hall's website suggested that the venue was a slick manor house/hotel operation with a landmark restaurant that focussed on fresh local produce, all supported by sample menus. Whereas the truth turned out to be a bed & breakfast operation hosted by a lovely and welcoming family. Our hosts recommended a lovely local place for dinner and made the bookings for us. We were truly spoiled, being able to stay in a lovely feature bedroom.

Lovely spacious room, comfortable bed, hot shower and lovely breakfast. The information pack in the room was very in-depth with everything about the location history, facilities and local knowledge including Dr’s, Dentist, pharmacy amongst others. Local pubs down the road, train station a steady 15 minutes walk with train into Shrewsbury a mere 15 minutes. A big mention to the hotel staff who were absolutely brilliant, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Very helpful staff, easy to alter breakfast times if a change of plans, very good breakfast selection; continental to full english. Rooms are spacious and airy , lots of safe parking space. Taco or sandwiches available through afternoon and early evening but for evening meals, there are 2 pubs near-by that do good evening food (The Fox & The Castle). Very useful in-house laundry service as well.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Food very good, and great breakfast. Comfortable bed however the shower wasn't powerful at all, but bathroom and room generally clean. Definitely a hotel for just the golfers rather than a nice retreat or short stay.
