Friendly, clean, comfortable, quiet location but near to town centre. Plenty of space for off-road parking.
It had an old fashioned feel about it in a good way ie friendly and accommodating. The owner cared about her guests.
We had a room with a good view of the garden and further afield.
There was plenty of choice for breakfast. We particularly liked the fruit salad.

A stunning B&B in a Georgian townhouse in the heart of Pickering with 5 minute walks to the castle and the historic railway line. Hosts very friendly, welcoming and professional. Lovely welcome touches such as cakes, sherry, fresh milk, DVDs to watch. Room was spacious and comfortable with a large shower. Breakfast was superb, private parking and a lovely garden.

Everything .. especially the beautiful location. We would return in a "Heartbeat" :-) should we find ourselves up in that part of Yorkshire again.

Thornton Le Dale is a lovely village in North Yorkshire and is the home of Mathewsons of Bangers and Cash fame.
Due to the lack of breakfast at the New Inn we went to Baldersons Cafe which was very good with excellent staff.
The village is quite small, however, there seem to be regular buses to Pickering and Whitby.
Avoid the New Inn if you are looking for a B&B.

A gorgeous little village with local shops selling local produce, places to eat, have a coffee or an icecream or buy local gifts, along with a charming antiques store. Your children and dogs can paddle in the brook and you can walk through the woods and follow the stream as well. Not forgetting popping into the Bangers and Cash ( TV show) shop that is in the village.

Close to many places of interest, the best pub was the New Inn which aslo serves food, there is a fish and chip ship and a take away pizza. Thornton le Dale is a picturesque village and is very close to Dalby Forest and The north Yorkshire Moors. It is only a couple of miles from Pickering where you can catch the steam trains to Whitby. Buses dont run frequently it is usuallay hourly in the morning and 2 hourly after that. There are no night buses. It is best to have a car. You can hire bikes in Thornton-Le-Dale. Baldersons sell the best ice cream. If you are self-catering and need to buy supplies , I would recommend the Co-op in Pickering.

Thornton-le-Dale oozes an air of peace and tranquility.
Thornton-le-Dale oozes an air of peace and tranquility. Said to be the prettiest village in Yorkshire. Ideal base for bus (Coastliner) trips to Whitby, Scarborough and York and only couple of miles from Pickering and The North Yorks Moors Railway.
Excellent walks in all directions and an abundance of independent shops including arts, crafts, the chocolate shop, cafes and an ice cream parlour.

Good area for walking / cycling.
Good area for walking / cycling.
Two pubs which don't always serve food or are open late.
Area dead at night although a few shops open by day.
Mathewsons Garage is the main attraction but do check their website for full opening hours as access to the cars seems to be on limited days around the auction and the museum is not currently open.
Pickering is only a few miles away.

Four of us stayed one night and when we got up at the arranged time for breakfast there was nobody there to do anything. We waited for a while and could not get anyone to help. I left a phone message on their answer machine to say we were now leaving and very disappointed. Subsequently i was contacted to say sorry and they would credit us for the 4 breakfasts we did not get.
I have asked them on numerous occasions now giving my bank account details and have had no response whatsoever. This is simply not acceptable because not only didn't we have a breakfast we paid for but also a promise to credit us and then just ignore it.
Hence I am sorry but on behalf of future residents I am leaving this review which I would prefer not to have done.
This is an "Old English" hotel/pub with great character. The room was of good size and comfort. A pleasant and friendly bar area with a good choice of local (Yorkshire) beers and others. The menu was not overly large or complicated but offered a good choice range. The food was really good, well presented and served by the chef (nice touch).
Lovely hotel in a fabulous location. Rooms were spotlessly clean & comfortable, a little warm as the weather was good but fans were provided in the rooms. Both breakfast & evening meal were excellent. Staff absolutely wonderful.
hotel was all I expected even more so, please ensure that Booking.com amend their description of the bathroom it is an en-suite and not a private room. it did give me doubts when booking.
lovely hotel right in the centre of the village. Bed room was small but had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. staff were very friendly and the food was fabulous
