Hawkstone Hall Hotel & Gardens, hotel in Shrewsbury

Boasting a garden, terrace and views of garden, Hawkstone Hall Hotel & Gardens is set in Shrewsbury, 24 km from Shrewsbury Cathedral.

What a fabulous place. We only stayed for one night but will but for more next year as it was so fabulous. A stunning view as you approach the Hall, and a lovely welcome. Beautiful bedroom and public rooms ( it is a historic house) and the food was also brilliant. Friendly courteous staff. You can even pet the alpacas and donkey belonging to the Hall. I can't praise it enough.

I am no stranger to Shrewsbury, I went there since I was little. Was even born there. All the while I lived in Mid Wales until I was 10½. Though, I had visited post moving away from Wales. This visit saw my first overnight stay in Shrewsbury, excluding my first ever few days decades ago.

Rather like stepping back into a children’s Ladybird book from the 1960s. Many old streets and Tudor houses, independent shops as well as those I expected; it felt remarkably safe for even vulnerable people to wander round. Friendly.

A great nostalgic visit to Shrewsbury.

A great nostalgic visit to Shrewsbury. Glad to see the town still thriving, with lots of small friendly independent shops. Lots of lovely cafes and eating places. So good to see the old historic buildings being preserved and look after. Being an old Salopian , born and bred it was lovely to stroll along the river and see people enjoying themselves. We shall be returning, we have been away too long.

Shrewsbury is a must visit particularly for people with an interest in English history and culture. It is interesting that I did not find any younger folk working in Shrewsbury that did not like being there. It has a remarkable sense of community.

There were other things we could have done including the prison at Shrewsbury. The pot holes on the roads around Shropshire were in a terrible state. So you did have to be careful about where on the road you drove. The town has lots of roundabouts which occasionally confused sat nav. But there was always another roundabout to fix the issue! We used food delivery which worked well for us and allowed us to obtain food to suit all pallets.
