Location great for where we wanted to go. Staff excellent really helpful and polite. Breakfast very good, choices exceptional. Could even get a good pint of lager in proper larger glasses. Only ate there at night on one occasions but no complaints with meal.

We stayed in Garden Court, lovely building. The grounds were so well kept. Loved being able to open the windows wide.

Firstly, the extensive well kept grounds and gardens in country surroundings. The friendly and attentive staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and always cheerful.
The room (no: 7) was extremely spacious and comfortable in a separate attractive block and close to the car park.
The large dining room was very pleasant, the food was wonderful, both breakfast and evening dinners were superb, we ate there all three nights of our stay.
We could see why it is a lovely wedding venue.

Shirwell village is a short drive from the cottage we stayed in. It’s a pretty village has no shops or other amenities apart from the church which we attended on Sunday and had an amazingly warm welcome from very friendly people.
The nearest shops are in Barnstaple, ten mins drive - although currently plagued by roadworks. Beaches are about 20 mins away but are well worth a visit - Saunton especially good for dogs as they are allowed all year round.

We chose Heather cottage for its location.
We chose Heather cottage for its location. A short drive along pretty country lanes to a farm where our granddaughter lives and it ticked all the boxes in our opinion. Nice and quiet, quaint and comfortable. Just as we hoped it would be and we would stay there again.

Shirwell is a quiet little village in the bottom of a valley...
Shirwell is a quiet little village in the bottom of a valley in North Devon and offer everything what such a place can offer and more! There are many attractions around like Tarka trail, coastal path, beaches, good waves for surfing, National Trust places, gardens, castles, rolling hills and I could go on. So if you like mother nature, you will like the place!
For great views and atmosphere go to Ilfracombe yacht club, before 8pm non members are welcomed as well. You can choose between seeview from the roof terrace or harbour view from the bar, I mean it can't get any better!
