The Angel is a 16th century former coaching inn and maintains its many period features. My room was Lord Nelson (205) - the rooms feature the names of famous guests - with a bedroom, separate sitting room and a bathroom. It is extremely spacious, nicely appointed and very comfortable. The location on the high street makes it ideal for exploring the town. The reception staff were super-friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Shalford is a pretty village just south of Guildford, with some beautiful and very old buildings. We had booked a family meal at The Seahorse - service was great, staff very helpful, and the food was delicious with a good range of food options, including veggie and vegan.

Shalford is about 35 minutes walk to Guildford past some of the most beautiful English countryside you could wish for - think old parish churches, winding river and a few really good British gastropubs. It has a Boots and a village shop as well as a cafe and sandwich shop in the center and if you don't want to walk to Guildford, there's a train right there that takes 4 minutes or you can catch a local bus. It's a drive from even more amazing scenery and once in Guildford you can go and see the castle and lots more! Definitely a great place to stay with or without a car. I almost don't want anyone to find out about it!

It was a lovely little cottage, with all the home comforts, it was well kept and very clean. The owners obviously take a great deal of pride in the place.
The welcome hamper was a nice touch, with tea bags coffee etc and a pint of milk in the fridge, for that long awaited cuppa!
The owners property is next door, so if you need them they are there, although we did not need them.
The only issue we had, was with the heating, we couldn`t figure out how to turn it down, there were instructions in a folder, but we struggled to figure them out. I think this was more user error, than anything wrong with the thermostat.
I would highly recommend staying here for a short break.
