Irton Hall, hotel in Seascale

Once visited by Oliver Cromwell and Henry VI, parts of Irton Hall date back to the 14th century.

We stayed with you last year and the room we were allocated was very small and dingy. We were in room 2 this year which was much better and more suited to a couple staying over a weekend. The breakfast and food options were excellent as the year before and are a real feature of Urton Hall that we look forward to. We have booked up again for the same weekend in 2025. Hopefully we will be allocated room 2 for our stay!

Nice small town, don't expect many shops or cafes/restaurants. The Seaside was very beautiful, easy to walk, with beautiful scenery, golden sand and big rocks. Keep in mind it looks like it's always windy there.

A nice friendly little town with good views over to the Isle of Man or inland to the Cumbrian fells. Good railway links, although I didn't use them this time. Interesting proximity to the Atomic. Nice church and friendly community.

Seascale is a stunning seaside location, has a beautiful tranquil beach. Has the best place to get ice cream from at Mawson's honestly yummy. People there are friendly and welcoming, it's got outstanding countryside you have eskdale, wastwater, ennendale, ravenglass on your door step. Since it's out of the national park they are hardly any tourists so a lot quieter.

The Co-op local is the only general store with limited choices. The bakery only opens for a short period but is highly rated and helpful staff. There is also a Chinese takeaway which is decent and busy. There is also a pizza/burger bar. There is and icecream parlour at the Bailey lodge which I am told really good. There are a few good pubs that do meals in the Gosforth area just 2 mile from Seascale and on the routes to Eskdale and Wastdale. Such as the pub at Santon bridge and Kellbeck hotel. I would say if you are intending to visit that area then Seascale is only suitable for short stays.

The Lodge is in Seascale and ideally placed for trips anywhere in the Lake District. Paul and Angela run an excellent establishment, very helpful, and as far as breakfast is concerned, very flexible. They also maintain excellent cleanliness all round. I would strongly recommend it.
