The Fleece Inn at Barkisland, hotel in Ripponden

This historical country inn from 1737 has panoramic views across the Ryburn Valley and a few minutes from the M62. It serves home-cooked food, and bedrooms feature wooden floors and panelling.

We both had the full English breakfast which was absolutely delicious. I would normally have gone for eggs benedict or similar, but as I didn't see an cereals out I plumped for the full English. It was only after we had ordered that a saw some cereals on a table at the other side of the room, but they weren't immediately apparent. The menu didn't mention cereal so I assumed there weren't any.

Ripponden is a very special place to me, my Dad grew up here, some years ago. Now we no longer have Dad it's great to come 'home' for a bit and visit this most beautiful spot. Dog friendly, got everything you need, food in the Lion is fabulous especially as they are very dog friendly.

Heating system wasn't by thermostat. Bathroom wasn't very well-decorated. The room was quite noisy, No indication of wifi codes. Lovely location, probably a great location. But strangely no cereal or toast at breakfast?

    Lovely little find.

Lovely little find. If you are from the city, this feels like a perfect little get away that still has everything local. Easy to get to and would certainly visit again. Lovely restaurant and little pizza place in the town.

I stayed in Ripponden for a wedding, just right for the stag. A convenience co-op for shopping. I didn't venture around too much but it looks a quirky little village with plenty of nice walks to go on.

We stayed here as a wedding guest. I loved the decor and both the public and bar areas felt clean. Ate as part of the wedding bbq which was lovely and different. Cocktail menu was good. The room was compact but had everything you would need for a short stopover with coordinated furnishings, modern shower room. Hair dryer / iron and board / tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was cooked to specifications. Hotel in a lovely setting would recommend and would stay again.

The overall stay was just amazing. The room was absolutely beautiful and definitely has a loo with a view. The hosts were so friendly and made us feel so welcome! The breakfast was scrumptious, and he couldn’t do enough for us. I would definitely recommend this place even if for one night like us. If we ever need a place to stay in Ripponden i’ll be sure to book this place again.

The place was blissfully quiet day and night. Once the car was parked up there was an adequate bus service to Ripponden or Halifax with the bus stop 2mins walk away. All in a great place for what we needed. Many thanks
