Lovely quirky cottage with a good amount of space and a good garden. Tea, coffee, milk and biccies was a nice touch.
Easy walk into town away from the road on an old railway line and good access to the forest.

Bedrooms were lovely, I liked how they were styled and they were very comfy. Bed was lovely and comfortable, we slept well.
Some of the breakfast offerings such as the pastries and fruit
Location was good and was convenient for everything we had planned during our trip to the area. We had a good meal at the butchers arms, this was a really helpful recommendation that we were given by the Wyndham.

two good pubs close by,one of which we had a very nice meal, and it was only two doors away from where we stayed, so not car needed. The area was very nice. Everything we needed was there, it was a good starting point for our activities. The Steam Train was a nice trip-not very long but full of history and the guard was very informative. Ross on Wye was not far, which was a nice visit.

Sadly, The Fountain Inn is up for sale, so I cannot vouch for how it may be run under new management. I sincerely hope it will remain as great as it's been for many years. Parkend is a handy area to visit many fine local places. Nowhere more than a half hour drive.

Parkend is a small village with minimal facilities, although there is a village store/post office and a couple of pubs. Sunday evening meals are served in nearby pubs, which should be noted because some establishments do not. There is a heritage railway station giving access to Lydney and the River Severn, and it is a good base to explore the Forest of Dean and surrounding area, for both walkers and cyclists.

A lovely home away from home.
A lovely home away from home. Everything we needed was on hand. The place was clean and lovely. A charming location. I would highly recommend a visit. 2 young children thought a TV in the bedroom was on par with a lotto win 😆

Beautiful place to stay in the middle of the forest.
Beautiful place to stay in the middle of the forest. Easy access to long and short walks, 2 pubs with good food. The steam train runs through it though as well. Surrounded by absolute beauty and easy access to other areas within the forest.
The Fountain Inn is amazing and as accommodating as can be during covid restrictions with family and dog friendly picnic areas and beer gardens.
A super-comfortable and very clean cottage. Wonderful location - walking and cycling into the forest (6 km to Cannop Cycle Centre on the easy cycle paths). Close to Parkend for shop/post office/cafe - you can even walk or cycle down the disused railway. Having 2 separate ‘bedroom suites’ is ideal. Well equipped and very well thought out. The garden area is lovely to sit out in. Parking for 1 car at the front - and room for 2 more at the back. Excellent WiFi (no mobile signal in the cottage). We will definitely be back.
Beautifully renovated, clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom large with good shower pressure. Breakfast was the best and pre ordered from an extensive menu. The location is right in the middle of the Forest of Dean, numerous walks begin from Parkend village and many beautiful places are within 15 mins drive including Symonds Yat Rock. Two doors down from the Deanfield is a pub that does great food. The hosts are professional and friendly. Overall, an exceptional place to relax and explore.
The location was excellent, right in the heart of Parkend.
I booked a room at Edale house for my elderly parents - we had originally booked a cottage for me, my wife and my parents, but as my parents are elderly they found the stairs very difficult. Edale house provided a ground floor room and were extremely accommodating at very short notice, and my parents loved their stay.
Staff were incredibly welcoming, with some useful incites into the local area. Hotel was clean, and rooms were well prepared. The breakfast was cooked well, and certainly 'hit the spot'.
