Tollemache Arms, hotel in Oakmere

Breakfast brilliant, staff really welcoming and very helpful especially helping me carry bags up and down stairs. The building is very old so expect the odd creak but the ambience of the place negates the creaks all part of the visit.

STAY on the High Street, hotel in Oakmere

Situated in Tarporley, 18 km from Chester Racecourse, STAY on the High Street features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking.

The only thing that holds it down is that there is no breakfast as it is purely just a stay place. However, right next-door you can get a full English breakfast. However, that does add to the cost considerably.

As we only stayed the one night didn't do an awful lot. But there is a lovely farm and gift shop worth a visit. Hollis farm shop. A must. Eating out is quite expensive, plenty of pubs in the small villages.

We booked 2 rooms, and received 2 rooms with beds - that’s about as good as it got. On check in the receptionist was really difficult to understand, she was heavily accented and very quietly spoken - so not the best combination. She took a preauthorisation for each room of £30 as a deposit for the key card, the literature stated £10, but refundable on checkout, so fine. We were assigned double rooms which were on the 3rd floor, and called Daliah and Laburnam. So we took the lift to the 3rd floor but the receptionist didn’t say the rooms were up another 2 sets of steps around a corner - very old and not really accessible easily with suitcases in tow. The rooms were tired, and down steep internal staircases within the room itself. The general level of cleanliness was poor - for £80 a room I didn’t expect the Ritz, but the lampshades had holes, the light fittings didn’t work, there were dead bugs in the overhead light, the cups and glasses were dirty… not just stained but dirty and the heating in the room was broken. I’ve worked in hospitality for years - and would have those rooms out of order until deep cleaned and repainted. If we didn’t have to stay there we wouldn’t have - the GM needs to actually have a look in those rooms - they are honestly terrible. Unless you are guaranteed different rooms DONT stay here - faded grandeur is one thing but this was verging on uninhabitable.

    The building was beautiful.

The building was beautiful. A lovely country hotel, the rooms were huge and old fashioned but that was all part of the charm. Lovely garden view and the breakfast was great. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The room was quaint and I loved that. The bed was really comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good with a good full English.loved the towels and toiletries, the towels were large.Staff were polite and friendly.Stayed here a few years ago and they had a Porter that took your cases to your room. It was a really lovely gesture. He was a font of information and even got us a taxi and so good. It’s the little things that make your stay. We missed that very personal touch but had a great stay this time.

Very good first impression, who doesn't like a gravel drive?

Very good first impression, who doesn't like a gravel drive? Very nice reception area, acres of wood panelling, speedy booking in process with room card and documents pre-prepared, clear instructions of route to room. Pleasant view from room window, but considering the location, I expect all rooms have a lake view. Evening meal very good, comprehensive menu and plenty of choice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

A proper country house hotel and decor is as you would expect. Easy check in, easy to find and plenty of parking. Good value (B&B). Good size room (although bit too warm). Nice breakfast, cooked to order. Continental was basically a bowl of croissants though (maybe because we came down after 9). Nice cosy night away. Some nice pubs and places to eat nearby, if you don't fancy the hotel restaurant.

It seems nice at first but had to vacate due to the most awful smell. Management refused to do anything about it so did Booking.com I wouldn’t advise anybody to stay here. Also absolutely no atmosphere very very very overpriced in the restaurant and for drinks.

This hotel is very beautiful without being ostentatious. The dining room is classically elegant as are all the communal areas. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the bed amazing!
