Northampton is one of England’s largest towns and has appeared in writing since the 10th century. The large medieval market square has an array of stalls 5 days a week, and nearby are the Market Walk and Grosvenor shopping centres. A larger retail and entertainment site is out of the town centre near Sixfields Stadium, home of Northampton Town FC. The Northampton Saints rugby union team play nearby, and Silverstone is south-west of the M1.
To the east is Billing Aquadrome, a marina complex with go karting, minigolf and a miniature railway. A smaller marina is along the River Nene in Becket’s Park, overlooked by 78 Derngate, a Grade II-listed house redesigned by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Other notable buildings are the Guildhall and colonnaded All Saints Church. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre dates to 1100 and is one of England’s largest round churches.
On the outskirts of town, by one of several golf courses, is Delapre Abbey, and to the north are other historic mansions of Coton Manor, Cottesbrooke Hall and the most famous of them all - Althorp House, the final resting place of Princess Diana.

Great countryside for walking, although the building sites and Duston link road were unexpected.
Public footpaths and bridleways were very well signposted and navigable.
Bonus to have pavements alongside the main A roads in the countryside.
Dog walkers on the Branston Valley way were very friendly and informative.
Aldi stores available too!
Good location for visiting historic houses and gardens.

I had a nice meal at The Abingdon with my daughter.
I had a nice meal at The Abingdon with my daughter. However, the town is very dirty - horrible bin bags on the streets and rubbish everywhere.
I only visit because my daughter is at university there and for the cricket also.
Abingdon Park is nice.

We didn't like Our bed because it was so much uncomfortable, it was like sleeping on springs not a bed, My husband has suffered a severe back pain as a result of the poor quality of the bed. We both woke up feeling achy all over.

We like to visit different pubs when we are on holiday. Northampton is a strange choice to visit for a holiday, but we enjoyed it. The people were really friendly and the pubs on the whole good. Don't mention Carlsberg,
They don't like it

Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds. About half an hour away from Northampton. Rooms were very comfy and nicely decorated. The hotel offers leisure facilities such as a pool and spa treatments but we sadly didn’t have time to use them. Will have to return to make up for that! Beth on reception was very friendly and helpful.
Location of hotel was great, a pleasant short walk to the town centre. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel was all very new and clean. We only had the continental breakfast option as we stayed at the weekend, there wasn't an amazing choice, but it was adequate and the staff very good.
We were attending a rugby match and certainly this hotel met our expectations, being walking distance of town centre and also of Franklin Gardens. Very good value . Good breakfast ( but cut off time of 8.45am).
Very Good All round accommodation. Quite a busy hotel with a restaurant serving a choice of reasonable meals. Very informal, (Good cooked breakfast). Near to the Railway Station, And the Town Centre.
