The location was perfect - at the head between lakes coniston and windermere. Ambleside is a beautiful town. Lovely spa and great staff

The location was perfect and the reason why we chose it as two members of our family were visiting us from Australia and wanted to see the lakes but also have some wind down time in gym and spa having been on a very hectic schedule for the last couple of weeks before travelling back to Australia.
I used to stay at this hotel many years ago because of the location.

Lovely hotel and grounds, out of the way, peaceful and quiet.
This peaceful, family-run Lake District hotel is a 5-minute stroll from Lake Windermere. The Burn How’s rooms are all situated in the private grounds, away from the main building.

The location was perfect were the staff apart from one bar man, he was the shorter of two (on duty 20/6/24). He was extremely rude no interaction except for telling you the cost, no please or thank you from him. I complained about him and was told that he has had bad week due to car problems, Boo Hoo. He should not be in the hospitality trade.
The whole experience at Sawrey house was excellent.
The whole experience at Sawrey house was excellent.
Our room was great.
Clean and the decor was class throughout the hotel.
Friendly staff nothing was to much trouble.
The food was excellent.
Just one minor criticism the plates could do with being hot as food went cold quickly.
Would definitely have a return visit.

Such a lovely village. Two pubs serving local beer.
Such a lovely village. Two pubs serving local beer. It was quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of Ambleside and Windermere. Walking distance from Hawkshead (20-30min walk) and similar distance from the ferry over to Windermere. I 100% want to return.

Perfect location to recharge and get away from the busy lives we all have. Peace and tranquillity, was simply amazing.
On days when you want to be looked after the hotel is next door, it's absolutely stunning, real fires, wonderful friendly staff and luxurious.

Location is good for Western side of Lake District as it is on west side of Windermere - access to Hawkshead and Coniston is good and also Grasmere and westwards. I chose this location for access to Tarn Hows.
Anyone wanting to visit Grizedale and Duddon Valley and Langdale will suit this location - Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass.
For Windermere/Ambleside/Keswick and North Lakes, stay on the eastern side of Windermere where the road is also faster and stunning scenery to Keswick.

Near Sawrey is a pretty village whose main draw is linked to Beatrix Potter. It is a must do for any fan of this much loved author but once visited, nearby Hawkshead offers more facilities in a cosy setting.
I had thought that a space might have been reserved by the entrance for my car (Porsche 911 Turbo). No such thing. I had to park further along towards the main road - but nothing untoward happened (fortunately). Breakfast was good. I presumed it is one pot of tea for one and one round of toast. Perhaps I should have asked as no-one offered? But I have always been asked if I wanted more tea or toast at all the privately-owned hotels I have stayed in. Evening dinner was good - the fish and chips. TV in room has Netflix.
Beautiful stunning hotel , amazing surroundings, beautifully decorated, both lounges had open fires , and our room had gorgeous views over the lake and hills. The dining room also had amazing views
Angela, Caroline and all the staff couldn’t have been more lovely and welcoming. Very attentive and informative and couldn’t do enough for us
Thank you all for the most wonderful stay , we would love to come back and stay again !
food was excellent throughout. Staff were very friendly, patient, and provided good advice. The hotel was relaxing and we very much enjoyed the lounge and bar. We were close to the Beatrix Potter house, and the local connections were good to other towns and villages in the vicinity. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom well equipped. The single room that our son used was a good size, and good storage, with a pleasant view.
Great location in Near Sawrey, with plenty of things to do nearby but far enough away from the busiest areas of Windermere. Near Sawrey is also nice itself, with a pleasant pub and a children's playground, as well as a nice short walk to Moss Eccles Tarn straight out of the door.
The apartment was nice, with ample parking, a nice living room and black-out blinds making for a good night's sleep
The attention to detail in every aspect of our stay, from the individual Victoria sponge with a pot of tea, to the decanter of Sherry in the room, was much appreciated. The hotel is both spacious and homely, with a warm welcome from both the staff and the fire in (one of two) lounges. The breakfast deserves a special mention, it really was special! We will definitely return.
We were delighted to be able to book this impressive hotel at short notice, it was the last room available. Located on the best side of Windermere away from the crowds we were surprised by the level of facilities and attention of the staff not forgetting the excellent breakfast which fuelled us for our activities on the fells and in Grizedale Forest.
It's a lovely little studio that has everything you need. It is very clean and nicely renovated. The area is beautiful, you can walk down to the lake through private hotel land.
