Northgate House, hotel in Ilsington

Situated in Buckfastleigh on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, next to the banks of River Dart. Among the various facilities of this property are a terrace, garden and a bar.

From the moment we stepped in, to be greeted by the friendly and welcoming staff at reception, we were more than happy. The bedroom [twin beds, as requested] was large, light and airy, and the facilities were excellent. Northgate House is close to the Abbey, which we enjoyed visiting. Breakfast was varied, and good quality, fully satisfying our needs. I would also like to recommend, and give special mention to, a quite excellent Farm Shop, within a couple of minutes walk, where we found lovely local produce, at very reasonable prices.

The Old Thatch - Hennock, hotel in Ilsington

Boasting a garden and views of mountain, The Old Thatch - Hennock is a homestay set in a historic building in Newton Abbot, 13 km from Newton Abbot Racecourse.

We loved our stay. We had a very warm welcome from Victoria complete with a glass of prosecco and chatting by a cosy fire. The house is amazing, it's much more like staying with classy friends than a B and B. Very comfortable and lots of thoughtful little touches. Delicious (I'm guessing) Italian dinner available with pre-booking (we couldn't arrive in time to try it). Breakfast was outstanding. Cute dogs and kitten to pet. Great location and good tips for local visits.

The hotel is in a small village with a shop, a village hall and a very nice little pub that serves great ale. The hotel is not cheap but it delivers in a lot of ways. The food is lovely, both in the bar and the restaurant, the pool is very nice, the rooms and housekeeping are great but above all else it was the staff. They were polite and made time to chat and talk about the area and such. The location, close proximity to Haytor, and Dartmoor in general is a walkers dream. Overall a great place for a short break.

We enjoyed early morning hiking in Dartmoor. Walk to Haytor rocks early in the morning at 07:00 was very enjoyable. Torquay is only 30 to 40 minutes by car which we visited and there are lot of other attractions in the area to enjoy.

Exceptional staff, friendly and efficient. The hotel was well decorated and modernised in some areas. Spa area was new and lovely! Breakfast was great. Good quality freshly squeezed orange juice - always the sign of a good hotel! My room was a superior room, which was spacious. I had a facial while I was there, possibly one of the best I’ve ever had! All in all a great place to stay. The only thing you need to brave is a few country roads to reach it.

We enjoyed a lovely relaxing time with excellent food. The hotel is set within beautiful Dartmoor park with Haytor in the distance. We enjoyed really amazing food in the dining room for both breakfast and dinner, and and a relaxing bottle of wine in the lounge. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The price is a really great value.

There is so much to like about this hotel. The location is beautiful, the spa facilities are exceptional for a small hotel and it would be difficult to better the general comfort and ambience of the hotel. The eye for detail is very apparent the moment you walk in. Nothing appeared to be overlooked to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

This is a very well run and good quality hotel. The staff were, without exception, most helpful and polite. The spa facility exceeded our expectation, the gardens are beautifully maintained - even in November. The delightfully spacious restaurant and bar both serve good food at a fair price.

The staff is extremely welcoming and helpful. The hotel is 4 star, however the staff there are a lot better than some of the 5 star hotels. I would like to specially thank Cameron, with his very professional and warm manner for serving.
