A great mix of shops, mostly independent local businesses.

A great mix of shops, mostly independent local businesses. Great choice of restaurants, and clothing boutiques with a boho twist. Good vintage shops, lovely down by the river and church. Interesting architecture. An awful lot of hairdressers tho!

Hitchin is a lovely market town.

Hitchin is a lovely market town. Some of the shops have closed down since my last visit, which is a shame, but the pubs and selection of restaurants is outstanding. The atmosphere is always great in Hitchin and the people are extremely friendly.

Hitchin is a great vibrant market town with an abundance of independent places to eat and chill. There are also the major chain places to eat and drink if you are a little less adventurous. There are plenty of open spaces and playgrounds for the little ones. You can sit in the town square, relax, have a drink and watch the world go by. The locals are friendly and happy to chat and help. The train station is nearby and you can be in the centre of London in under an hour.

Lovely old market town with historic buildings, very grand looking church and a large interesting looking market. Quite lively at night and easily accessible by train but station is a mile or so walk from the centre.

Based on a previous visit I loved Hitchin.

Based on a previous visit I loved Hitchin. However the weather was so hot that this time I spent most of it sitting in the dark in my friends living room trying to keep cool!! Hitchin has some lovely old buildings, a busy market, lots of places to eat and independent shops. It is within easy reach of London.

Fantastic room. Old world charm and four poster bed were ideal for our romantic Anniversary getaway. The facade did not do the hotel justice. The restaurant area was really elegant with the main area and bar demonstrating really old world charm; low ceilings, tudor beams and old English beauty. Parking was perfect and breakfast was excellent.

Beautiful old building with lots of history set in a very peaceful area of Hitchin. Superb location a stones throw from the town centre. We used to live in Hitchin and have eaten there but never stayed so as we were up for my husband’s birthday it was perfect! Parking is included as is a good breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel is in one corner of the jungle very far from the town center. The room carpet had a lot of stains, bed was old and not comfortable to sleep in. the staff don't care about any feedback. The hotel is ideal for wedding guests, I would next time stay in the town center which was lovely with plenty of eating options.

We had a terrible stay. There was a power failure due to poor maintenance of the building. The roof fell and we had to move out to find another hotel in the middle of the night. Horrible experience. Will not recommend it to anyone as it's a health and safety risk. The rooms are tired and nothing works.

The room was basic and cosy - old fashioned, not a modern suite. Breakfast was served in the main building and offered everything I wanted, staff were lovely. Excellent value for money but not a posh hotel or premier inn. plenty of parking.
