Room was very quiet, breakfast was good, breakfast staff Sue and Allison were excellent and a real plus to your hotel as was Dixon who is part of your dinner staff. The room cleaning staff were also excellent and had a great service attitude.

Embleton Spa Hotel & Apartments, hotel in Gilcrux

Originally an 18th-century Lakeland farmhouse, Embleton Spa Hotel is a family-run hotel offering apartments, suites, and en-suite rooms.

The food was really good especially the street food on Saturday night although Sunday night there was no beef for the beef dish and no coconut rice. We were half board so were restricted. Breakfast is good but you have to book this in advance the night before so make sure you really want what you have ordered.

The Waverley Hotel Maryport, hotel in Gilcrux

Set in Maryport, The Waverley Hotel Maryport features a bar. Boasting luggage storage space, this property also provides guests with a restaurant. Free WiFi is available throughout.

The breakfast was fine. It is not a 5 star place so I wasn’t expecting kippers and prunes! The hotel is a little tired looking but everything was very clean and tidy. The staff were great. The bar attracts locals who were very friendly. I love this little hotel. It is very dog friendly at no extra charge. I think it is sn little unpolished gem and will go back anytime I can.

The flat is huge. It has so much space. And it is so nicely decorated. Easy to get to. Communications was great and the instructions were super clear. The bed was super comfy and the flat had black out blinds so we had an amazing sleep. Ash and Maggie were also super kind and allowed us to check in an hour early when our plans changed unexpectedly which we ready appreciated.

Gilcrux is a tiny village with a good pub serving good food. The area is very rural so it is just the very beautiful country side with a few towns not too far away like Cockermouth with lots of nice shops and eateries, and coastal towns on the West coast like Maryport and Silloth near the Solway Firth.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the local beeches caravan park. We had food and drinks in The Mason Arms which is dog friendly. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Food was delicious. Everyone we encountered was friendly. A local recommended a pizza place called Bella pizza in the next village dearham which was delicious. Gilcrux seems a lovely friendly village.
