FAQs about hotels in Fort William

In the Shadow of Ben Nevis

Fort William is shadowed by Great Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, and lies on the shores of pretty Loch Linnhe. The Scottish Highland’s 2nd biggest city attracts hordes of hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, enhancing its self-proclaimed reputation as the ‘outdoor capital of Scotland’.

In the city centre, on High Street, is the West Highland Museum that explains local Highland history. The West Highland Way is a famous, long-distance walking route that begins and ends just outside Fort William.

The Nevis Range ski centre and Nevis Range gondola provides a stunning view of the Great Glen. A downhill mountain-biking track also begins here. This breath-taking track has hosted numerous world cups as well as the 2007 World Championships. Stop along the way to try the local whiskey at Ben Nevis Distillery.

Named after William of Orange, Fort William has been home to the Clan Cameron for many generations. Booking.com invites you to soak up the outdoor highlights and history of this charming city and surrounding countryside with its extensive range of hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses.

Fort William is a quiet little town nestled on the loch surrounded by mountains which I absolutely fell in love with. The vibe is chill and relaxing. I would definately recomment the Loch Linnhe boat cruises and hiring an e-bike from Nevis Cycles to ride up the canal to Gairlochy.

So many incredible things to see and do.

So many incredible things to see and do. The hidden gem, if you golf, is the Woodlands south of town! The hiking, scenery, and people are so wonderful. Hiking is right out your doorstep. There was archery, golf, Ben Nevis, and the food, so many good places. A hidden gem in the town center was a museum of the Highlanders.

My second visit to Fort William.

My second visit to Fort William. It was our last stop on after doing the NC500. Hence we just stayed for one night. However we managed to visit Glenfinnan and the town of Fort William which had shops open late in the evening. The restaurant options in town were good and overall the place felt very safe for everyone. There is so much to see and explore in and around Fort William which I had done on my previous visit and would recommend a minimum of three days to do full justice.

Fort William was a busy, lively little tourist town. It had a very good selection of places to eat and a large selection of shops selling hiking and outdoor wear . ( If needed) . The view of Ben Nevis is breathtaking and the surrounding landscape is spectacular. Lots of wonderful walking paths that a very safe to hike along .

We had been led to believe that Fort William was a rather run down town, so we were pleasantly surprised at the number and variety of shops, not very many charity or mobile phone shops. The one area that does need a bit of improving is the pedestrian walk from the station/bus station to the High Street. We spent 2 days browsing the shops on the high street having taken a short train journey from Banavie on one day and a bus the following day. There are a number of restaurants, cafes, public houses to suit all tastes and my husband even had an excellent haircut at the Turkish Barbers by the Station! It is an ideal base for Highland exploration with a good train service to Mallaig and Glasgow. All in all a great little town.

This gem of a hotel is located in the heart of Fort William's main street so shops and restaurants are literally right out the front door. The transportation hub is a short walk away, and there is a public parking lot close by. If you drive there, wait to take in your luggage until after you check in as they will show you how to access a lift in the back of the building. The staff is extremely helpful and gave great suggestions for nearby excursions and a lovely nature walk in town.

The location is quite nice for those wanting to hike around the area, since the hotel is located right next to the trail to the Cow Hill from which you can see a picturesque panoramic view of Fort William. The restaurant is very good, and there are a few nice amenities in the room like a wide variety of hot drinks to boil by yourself and cookies.

the possibility of having dinner in the hotel was very good since the weather was stormy, and there were floods. Staff was nice. Location is good, not in the centre of Fort William, but if you have a car, it will be perfectly easy to arrive there.
