The Gables Luxury Bed & Breakfast, hotel in Ford

The Gables is set in 2 acres of gardens outside Duddo, surrounded by the Cheviot Hills. This family-run bed and breakfast is housed in a charming Victorian villa, once a vicarage.

We had a fantastic stay at the Gables. Angus is an entertaining host who was there to welcome us on our arrival. We were made to feel at home. The house is beautifully maintained and the furniture comfortable and in keeping with the style of the house. Our room was huge. The bed is bespoke and equally as vast as the room. Our breakfast was well cooked and the produce local. Angus' recommendations were very helpful. His suggestion to extend our planned walk to take in even better views paid off. We had a great time at the Gables and would recommend it for short stays similar to our visit or to use as a base for a longer trip to explore the amazing landscape that surrounds the area.

East Learmouth Lakeside Lodges, hotel in Ford

Boasting quiet street views, East Learmouth Lakeside Lodges provides accommodation with patio, around 24 km from The Maltings Theatre & Cinema.

The Cedar Lodge was so cute in a nice tranquil lakeside setting, such a quiet place to relax and chill within a good distance to the coast too. Was nice as only 2 other lodges on the lake and they are separated apart. Hopefully book again.

An immaculately kept estate village in a beautiful, interesting area. Easy access to the glorious Northumberland coast and hills. The Ford and Etal estates have a number of good visitor locations, both historical and scenic. Good as a destination or as a stopping point for a couple of days.

We loved Ford and the neighbouring villages on the estate for their beauty and tranquillity. If there is a downside it is that there is no where to eat/drink in Ford after 4pm and visitors have to travel a few (and only a few) miles to local pubs for an evening meal.

Ford and Etal are beautiful villages within a well kept country estate. I enjoyed the walks, the attractiveness of the buildings and the castles. The tearoom at my B&B is lovely, serving a good variety of light lunches as well as my delicious breakfast. The adjoining shop is very convenient. This is a good location for visiting places of interest in Northumberland.

A lovely place with lots to see and do. The Hay Farm is worth a visit, you will enjoy a step back in history learning about Clydesdale horses. You will get to meet many of the horses and foals too. There are a number walks to other local areas like Heatherslaw and Etal.

Ford is an unspoilt gem with fabulous scenery, much care for the local environment, heavy horses are still bred here, a mill produces bread flour, a steam train operates in a heritage community so local attractions are tasteful not touristy. There are castles around every corner, Flodden battlefield is nearby and there are walks, cycleways, places to eat, plus within easy reach are the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne. This is an ideal place to discover Northumberland and the borders plus venture into Scotland.

A most interesting village which is coupled with Etal.

A most interesting village which is coupled with Etal. Very pretty places and the Black Bull serves excellent food. Etal has a ruined castle and a little train runs to Heatherslaw where there is a working cornmill, cafe and arts and craft shop. Hay Farm has Clydesdale horses and a little museum which is very good. Ford has a most interesting old school with murals painted on the walls by Lady Waterford who was socially conscientious very before her time and tore down the slum estate dwellings and rebuilt more suitable accommodation, built the school and provided a nurse to look after the children. Lots of nice walks in the area too.
