nicely decorated. The owners were friendly and very efficient and helpful. The property was also was very safe and secure (great for a sole traveller). Lovely breakfast too.
A traditional family-owned pub in Greystoke, The Boot and Shoe is only a 10-minute drive from the M6 motorway. The Lake District National Park is around 30 minutes’ drive away.

Ellonby is a good base to get to Penrith, the northern, central or southern lakes. There is a local restaurant, if its sunny, you can walk to Skelton and sit on the bench outside for a beer, but inside its a very nice gastro restaurant for meals only. The Boot & Shoe is the best local pub which is an 8min drive away and is also very nice.
