not technically Dundee, we actually stayed in Broughty Ferry, a neighbouring town.
The town is easily reached from Dundee, whether coming any direction. The town lay-out is quite straight forward, most of the main streets run parallel with the river Tay. Easy to keep, or retain your bearings. The main shops are all within 5 to 10 minutes of each other, so never far to walk to get shopping, plenty of variety, cafe's, restaurants, gift shops, grocery stores etc, the vast majority being smallish independent shops, only the odd one or two high street names.
Prices can be a bit higher than within Dundee, possibly due to less competition, and the fact it is a touristy town.
Dundee is about 10 minutes drive, at most, so if staying long-term, eg 1 or 2 weeks, and self catering, then big supermarkets are easily reached.
There;s enough about Broughty Ferry top keep most folk occupied and amused for a short term break, with plenty of variety for all ages.
overall, a nice place to visit, and once you've been, you'll wonder why you hadn't been before.

I really like Dundee but have only started visiting fairly recently. Prior to that it was always somewhere we stopped for a quick snack before heading on to Glasgow or Edinburgh.
For my 11 year old, she loves the shopping as we do let her loose by herself (which is not something I would allow in Glasgow or Edinburgh, too big) and I like the culture. The Discovery and the V&A are right next to each and good for a visit. The HMS Unicorn is also worth a visit and we have enjoyed the Science Centre and Camperdown Park previously.
There are some lovely pubs and restaurants, I have never met any rude staff, they are always so lovely and friendly.
Highly recommend a wee visit.

Plenty of things to do and see. We were there for a gig at The Caird Hall love the intimate atmosphere of the venue. Plenty of shops pubs and eating places. Easy to get to although new LEZ might be a bit of a nuisance for city centre things

Well I am going to say it is great going to Dundee as I am an expat.
Not too impressed with the V&A, Lovely building but disappointing inside. McManus is better. Up the Law Hill is well worth the visit even in the cold and wind etc. and Broughty Ferry is great for shopping and pubs etc.

Only a brief visit (open day visit to one of the Universities with son from England). Wish we had longer - lovely small city, friendly atmosphere and very beautiful location. New design museum a must. Will be back to see more of city and area, even if son does not end up at the Uni.
Hotel was excellent, big room with everything you could possibly need, very comfortable bed, great bathroom & shower, great facilities. Hotel is an old Dundee factory/mill that’s been converted into a beautiful Hotel, they’ve done a fantastic job, there is a bit of Dundee history scattered around the place, lovely restaurant with great food, nice sitting area to relax and enjoy a drink from the bar. Fantastic breakfast, also a ten minute walk to Dundee City Centre, would definitely recommend.
We had a lovely spontaneous overnight stay the Invercarse. Luckily the weather was good, so we got to sit out in the lovely garden for lunch and drinks. A perfect location. It’s a bit of a walk into Dundee city centre, but it was a nice day so we really enjoyed the walk. The room we had at the hotel was large and had everything we needed for a great stay. Staff are very professional, pleasant and welcoming.
Beautiful hotel, nice and clean with friendly staff.Room size was spacious and cosy.Location was perfect for main part of Dundee.Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices to meet most people's requirements.Bar was open until 12pm with good views overlooking the Tay.Very impressed with this hotel it was perfect for our needs and would highly recommend to others.

Another cracking stay in a club room at the Malmaison in Dundee. We ate at the brasserie in the hotel this time round - a highly civilised experience.
Lovely room on the 6th floor - bed was so comfortable it was a shame that we had to leave early in the morning to head to work! Great shower and bathroom.
Parking over the road, and free bewteen 6pm and 8am.
Back soon!
Location was perfect for our needs. Price was fantastic for central Dundee. Parking free another bonus for a city centre hotel. Breakfast was amazing both days. Lots of choice, serving staff were attentive and fast. Comfortable bed and we had free Wi-Fi which covered our basic internet use. Comfortable bed. Staff were fantastic throughout the hotel.
On check in, we were met by Ged, who was a superstar. He was telling us about all the best pubs to visit in Dundee. Our room was very well finished with everything we needed. Parking is at the front of the hotel and also they have an underground facility as well. Breakfast was very good, with lots of options to choose from.
A fabulous restoration of one of Dundee’s historic buildings. Excellent facilities and very efficient friendly staff at reception, in the bar and restaurant.
While the hotel car park is quite small there is a public car park a couple of minutes away and costs very little.
This hotel is a must stay if in Dundee 1st class from you enter reception, staff can't do enough for you visited with my family and will be back in the very near future. Facillities are superb and the swimming pool was nice and warm my grandaughter loved every minute.
Great hotel in a great location, only 17min to Dundee city centre. Unfortunately the internet connection was horrendous. 3G and still buffering. Couldn’t use the iPad with iPhone Bluetooth. If your looking for a top hotel look no further, if your holiday making…..
Everything about this hotel very clean place plus great value for cash and the area is just superb water not far from hotel stunning scenery my 1st time in dundee I'd return back to thus hotel highly recommend
I didn't stay there, the photos were enough to put me off. I didn't realise it was a hostel and shared bathroom . I tried to cancel but yous wouldn't waiver the hotel cost . So i didn't go.
The location of the hotel was very convenient and the room was comfortable. We enjoyed our breakfast and coffee in the morning with a nice view over the city.
