Must be the best hotel on Orkney. Wonderful position on Loch Harray. Central for all the key sights. A bonus if you fish is it’s on a loch and John the gillie is a star. Food good. This is a traditional hotel … absolutely not a boutique hotel (long may it last).

Outside of hotel bit disappointing but inside was much better. Enjoyed our dinner at their restaurant down the street. Lovely sleep, good shower, lovely breakfast. Loved the pictures on the breakfast room walls and the staff were informative. There is no on-street parking outside the hotel due to the narrow streets of Stromness but the parking is only a few minutes walk away. We had a great walk in the evening and in the morning went uphill to the viewpoint behind the hotel. Fabulous view over several islands in the sun- stunning! Orkney is just amazing

Everything you need for stay of a couple of nights.However there is no choice of other places to eat and drink unless you drive to the Merkister Hotel a couple of miles up the road and it's not always possible to have meal there as we discovered because they can be booked up.
