Last year Douglas appeared a bit slow and quiet.
Last year Douglas appeared a bit slow and quiet. This year there seems to have been a real improvement. New very smart bars and coffee shops. The shopping centre has also improved with really good high quality shops. So easy to book a meal in any of the restaurants and also quite a few of the hotels welcomed diners who were non residents. Overall a pleasant friendly vibe to the area around the Empress and Sefton hotel. The Casino hotel and surrounding area very poor, shabby exteriors really needs an upgrade in that vicinity

Wasn't very impressed with Douglas.
Wasn't very impressed with Douglas. A bit run down and promenade was too long to walk especially if you have walking difficulties. Too spread out. Beach has stones and not sand and scaffolding was up in front of it.

Went with my friend who was born and lived on the island until she left to go to University, never lived there permanently after that. I go with her once a year she to visit family and me to visit old haunts I used visit many years ago when I went to the island with my parents and have never fallen out of love with the island. We always go to Peel when on the island to kick the rock at the end of prom as it is said that if you kick the rock you will always come back.
The Island is a very welcoming and comfortable hotel run by Celine, Antony and Reanne. Communications from Celine were very good. The rooms are spacious and very clean with very nice showers too!
Breakfast is wonderful, with a range of cereals to a full cooked breakfast and even kippers. The breakfasts were a perfect and welcome start to a busy day at the Isle of Man.
We had a wonderful time. The hotel is really nice and very clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room exceeded our expectations. We booked a 'small double' but we found it quite large and having the ensuite bathroom was great. We couldn't believe how close to the sea we were, and to the center of Douglas.
Breakfast choice and quality was spot on. Staff very polite and helpful. Hotel in a good location on Douglas promenade, not far from the Electric Railway and with a couple of pubs and some eateries nearby. Was able to park my motorbike nearby.
The outstanding feature of this Hotel is the Superb Buffet Breakfast, and the Breakfast Waiting Staff.
Good Car Parking is available.
The Casino is quite Good.
Isle of Man is an excellent place.
