Wellington Tavern Accommodation, hotel in Dewsbury

Wellington Tavern Accommodation, a property with a bar, is situated in Dewsbury, 10 km from White Rose Shopping Centre, 11 km from Middleton Park, as well as 16 km from Trinity Leeds.

Absolutely nothing sadly, we arrived to an extremely loud pub which you’d expect but it had broken windows, drug smokers, beyond drunken customers and a 24 hour betting shop next door, we were told not to go out after dark for fear of being assaulted or robbed but we braved that to go for a pizza and wished we hadn’t!!! We walked back in to the bar to get a drink to witness the barman and a drunk woman screaming at one another, the smell of weed and our filthy room (happy to provide pics). My wife and our pet were absolutely terrified, the smoking area was an alleged beer garden IN A BACK ALLEY, we had no wish to stay for breakfast, we left the keys in the door and ESCAPED before breakfast, stopped at a petrol station to buy a sandwich for our 4 hour journey. Longest, scariest nosiest night of our lives. Hopefully this was a one off and the next family find it amazing and call us snobs but we doubt that very much.

Gomersal Park Hotel & Dream Spa, hotel in Dewsbury

Set in beautiful parkland and less than 5 minutes’ drive from the M62 motorway, the Gomersal Park Hotel offers free on-site parking and free WiFi.

Worth mentioning that i was mid week and i don't think there were many guests at this time - great for me. Meals were lovely, dinner was reasonable, tasty and good portions. Breakfast was great. Staff were friendly and service quick. Every member of staff were so friendly. Room was large, clean and very comfortable with no noise at night. The spa is the crowning glory. For £30 I upgraded to the spa experience and it was totally worth it, I went at 3pm and almost felt like I had the place to myself, although I would imagine it's usually much busier. Plenty of free parking. For commuters, if you can get a room here, do it and I think it would also be lovely for a couples get away. As a single traveler who just needed a getaway and recharge, this hotel stay left me feeling great.

I am sure there are many kind hearted people out there but at the same time Dewsbury is very deprived, dirty and noisy. Still I am glad I went as I saw good hard working people who deserved the money I spent there.

I lived & worked in or near Dewsbury for over 20 years until 2006 and found it generally to be a pleasant working-class town. The town is now however a dreadful dump full of empty shops, litter, vandalised buildings and drugged-up addicts swearing & chasing pigeons in front of the town hall . I hope never to go back.

Still has a quaint old Yorkshire feel to it, but it seems to be losing the battle against bargain shops and smelly take-aways. Easy to negotiate with good transport links via the train and bus station. Best place to visit is The West Riding Refreshment Rooms - which is a real ale pub on the station with live music out the back....good pizzas too.

When I asked a local how to spend time in Dewsbury, I was told to best get the next train to Manchester. Once a wealthy industrial town, it is run down today without much to do and lots of boarded up storefronts. In terms of historical value, the minster church going back to the Saxon period is worth a visit.

I had chosen to stay in Dewsbury as a change in venue from previous trips. I had been unable to visit a couple of places on an earlier trip to West Yorkshire. Dewsbury does have some lovely architecture, but it's a little run down. I couldn't get into the Minster and the canal basin was quite disappointing. Dewsbury is only a few minutes from Leeds (by train) and from there so much of Yorkshire is available. I chose to head back to Wakefield in order to get to The Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The following day I went to Saltaire which is definately worth a visit!

Dewsbury is a ghost town and in a very poor state.

Dewsbury is a ghost town and in a very poor state. Shops are empty and the town has been deserted by locals, who shop elsewhere. With limited parking it is not worth the effort. Restaurant’s were also limited and not inviting. We did not find a public house, that served food either in town or Earlsheaton,

The location is good, as Dewsbury isn't that big. Checking in was fine, in fact one girl remembered me from 6 months ago - which I find incredible considering how many guests must have passed through. Although the room wasn't exactly quiet it wasn't loud at all considering yuo're above a pub! It's great value for money in all aspects and I will continue to stay there as and when necessary.

Really loved the size and space of the house and where it was. Comfortable and clean living areas and bedrooms. Was really spacious and good amount of bathrooms/toilets so wasn’t an issue for the amount of people staying. It’s also really close to dewsbury where you can easily get the train into Leeds for a small cost.
