Our accommodation was very good. Although we had to wait longer than expected.v no swimming pool. No fine dining. No residents bar. A shame. Completely different from last year when we looked over the hotel. The food was too run of the mill. Eat lunch time same menu in evening. Got told off for wanting to look at the residents bar that was closed. There seemed to be a lack of resources. To offer a drinks voucher instead of having your room cleaned each morning, would seem to be the sign of resourcing problem.
Having said all of this the Manager did his very best.
Breakfast was excellent.
The Lakes are our favourite holiday destination. But we would think twice about going back to the Wordswirth , such a shame as we had planned to make it an annual pilgrimage. l

Chapel Stile has a nice pub (the Wainwrights Inn) and with a short further walk to Elterwater the Britannia Inn serves good food and ale. And both reached without much contact with the 'main' road. There is a lovely path from Chapel Stile through the centre of the Langdale Valley which takes you all the way to the New Dungeon Gill (about 2.25 miles), and you can walk further to the Old Dungeon Gill, have a drink and catch a bus back (1 an hour). If you fancy testing your nerve on Wrynose Pass and Hardknott pass then they are not too far away either. During our stay in Chapel Stile we really enjoyed hearing the birds singing every morning. We also enjoyed watching the swallows popping into the sheltered stairway from road to property front door to feed their young in the nest in the corner. Despite the popularity of the Lake District Chapel Stile still felt relatively quiet and relaxed. We really enjoyed our trip over to Grasmere although the roads are mainly single track and not designed for too much traffic. I walked my bike down the 25% gradient into Grasmere rather than trusting my brakes!
Chapel Stile was great - quiet, quaint and ideal for accessing some great walks. The property was tastefully decorated throughout and we had wifi which worked which is quite unusual based on our experience. Really lovely cottage laid over 3 floors. Some lovely touches throughout. Really cosy and welcoming.
Really good for larger parties, plenty of space, comfortable rooms (even in winter), well-equipped kitchen, nice seating for dining and conversation. Great location, local co-op well stocked, and access to the leisure facilities at the hotel were used and much appreciated!
