Very clean and fresh, which was unexpected in such a historic building. Every staff member was exceptional, polite and helpful, from receptionists to bar staff to restaurant staff and room attendants.

If you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful stay within a self-contained home-from-home, then The Lambing Shed won’t disappoint. It was well appointed and spotlessly clean, and is obviously a labour of love for the owners, who were very welcoming and affable.
The grounds and setting were delightful, and very conducive to a relaxing stay. We used The Lambing Shed as our base whilst exploring the local area, with Bude, Tintagel and the North coast not far away, and The Eden Project to the South only a 40-minute drive.
Before arrival, the owners provided plenty of useful information, including the best route to get there. I recommend adhering to their directions – The Lambing Shed is in a quiet location, part of its charm, and can be approached from two directions, both narrow / single track roads as you near the locale. Following instruction, coming in from the direction of the Rising Sun Inn (about 1 mile away, East of the Lambing Shed) the roads are narrow, but manageable. Coming in from the West to The Lambing Shed, as forewarned, is an experience, especially in a modern SUV – at points you wonder whether the road is actually too narrow for your car. During our stay we tried this adventurous route, more due to following the SatNav than reckless abandon, and were very glad not to meet any oncoming traffic along the way, and relieved once it was over.
The team of robot gardeners on the grounds also kept us more amused than they perhaps should. They did a grand job.

An elegant and characterful building. Its clearly going through a period of refurbishlment so parts of the building look a bit tired but look beyond that and you'll see beautiful period detailing in the bedrooms and shared spaces making it so much more interesting than some of the bland, modern chain hotels. The owners should be applauded for investing in retaining those features. My bedroom was much larger than average (though I know some are smaller) and with a large, modernised bathroom.
The terrace accessed from the bar provided superb views of the surrounding countryside.
The staff were welcoming, polite and friendly - mostly younger folk who took pride in their job which was refreshing.

managed to get a really good deal for one night away with my husband. check in easy and Shannon the receptionist was so lovely could not fault her at all. we went to our room which was lovely but was above the main fan outlet, so just popped down stairs to ask what time it went off and was told at midnight which was no problem for us what at all. while we were there the Manager Katie was there and without any hesitation she changed our room which we did not expect as that was not what we were looking for, but wow wow wow the lovely Katie gave us the Deluxe room for no extra charge, we were floored at her kind gesture. Least to say we felt really special indeed. she had a lovely manner about her and i felt like she really cared which is a rarity these days. so a huge thank you Katie you made our night.
can i also just say that all the staff there are wonderful and nothing was to much bother for any of them.

A great location to explore the moors and that part of Cornwall. We visited Tintagel, Eden Project, Padstow and Bodmin during our stay. B and minor roads across the moor were an experience to drive. Loved the walk to the Golitha Falls, we also enjoyed the steam train journey in Bodmin. The Bodmin Jail experience was excellent.

A tiny hamlet exposed on the moor.
A tiny hamlet exposed on the moor. Probably lovely on a hot summers day or a bright spring morning but best experienced in a November or February storm or deep snow. It's a wild place despite the road. Easy access to the moor, and the side lanes are safe to walk near the inn

Room a very good size for a single.
Room a very good size for a single. Bathroom was well stocked. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate sachets provided. Bible in the bedside. Peaceful room with lovely views. The bar was nice and although I never used the food facility it did look good.
Only downpoints; Nowhere to put the well supplied items in the shower. A shelf inside the shower may be useful. The room it self was extremely quiet apart from the noise when other guests flushed their toilets and even more annoying was that you can hear snoring from other rooms.

The Atmosphere in the Pub and restaurant while the shops have lots to see and buy.
The rooms are a good size and have views of the countryside.
It is very quiet at nights and the beds are great.
We used the hotel as a base camp to see parts of Cornwall including Launceston Castle, Tintagel and Lands' End.
We'll be back to see the Smugglers Museum and the Daphne Du Maurier Museum again as both were very interesting.
