Old Downton Lodge, hotel in Aymestrey

Set in an 18th-century farmhouse with views across the Shropshire countryside, Old Downton Lodge is just 15 minutes’ drive from Ludlow’s historic town centre and castle.

Very laid back in beautiful countryside, the dinner was very good and staff friendly and polite, deserves more bookings as it wasn’t anywhere near full but this could be time of the year & our stay was early in the week.

Ambience. Surroundings. Customer service. Beer. Food.

Ambience. Surroundings. Customer service. Beer. Food. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Great shower. Attention to detail. Riverside setting with tables on river bank. Peace and quiet. Cosy bar area. Local walks. Spotlessly clean. Little decor features and customer gifts that added that little extra

A small village on the banks of the river Lugg in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside. Close to lots of National Trust properties and close to certain national walking paths. Good fly-fishing on this river, I would imagine. Certainly good walking in the vicinity. Close to several historical market towns.

    Fabulous!

Fabulous! Amazing food, also catered for vegetarians with fabulous food alongside their normal menu of fabulous, fresh and tasty meals. Food is locally sourced as much as possible and is all beautifully prepared and presented. Awesome. Rooms are clean, very comfy, very well presented and well stocked with everything you'd need and more. I could not fault and highly recommend, a perfect stay.

Entrance was shabby. Garden pond was mucky.

Entrance was shabby. Garden pond was mucky. Lighting was awful. Central lights in both rooms flashed the whole time. Lounge area was cluttered. Electric sockets ran from a single point. Bedroom was OK but by no means up to date. Bathroom was very dated. Blind was broken so there was no view. It was expensive for what you got. And the picture on Booking.com and reviews were all very welcoming. Not value for money at all.
