Medehamstede Hotel, hotel in Arreton

The Medehamstede Hotel is set amongst spacious well-kept gardens in the coastal town of Shanklin.

Closeness to Shanklin Beach (beach lift, or walk down to bottom of Shanklin Chine. Not far to Regent Street and Shanklin train and bus station. The included breakfast was very good. Single accommodation (room 3) was perfectly adequate for my stay. As a sea angler I was welcomed. A great place to stay and very good value. Recommend.

The facilities at the location looked good, but as we were...

The facilities at the location looked good, but as we were there in early march for our wedding anniversary most were closed. Arreton is in an ideal mid island location which meant everything was 15 miles travel in any direction. we really liked the Thai and Chinese in Ryde plus the bowling alley, and a quirky restaurant in Cowes high street called Call It What You Want. The road outside the cottage was very busy in school drop off and pick up times, but apart from that we never heard any traffic. The garden was full of birds and an amazing red squirrel, and would be a great place to sit out in having drinks in warmer times. The White Lion pub was pretty dead but the dairyman's daughter offered reasonable pub grub, but shut early. nearby the fighting cocks was always busy with good food, the hare and hounds closed earlier than advertised, as it is early season. The monkey & donkey sanctuaries were great, as was the Garlic farm, not so happy with the amazon zoo, If we had longer would have used the electric train using London underground carriages, and also the steam train which opens at Easter. The sleepy south eastern coastal towns would be better visited later in the season, as they were pretty much closed. The hovercraft at Ryde were tempting, but expensive, as was the excellent car ferry over from Southampton.
