I chose the New Bath Hotel and Spa because of its unique spring water outdoor pool. Although it was a bit cold (19C) I managed a couple of decent swims and our room overlooked the pool so we were able to watch other swimmers doing their laps, which was strangely relaxing. It was a truly memorable feature of our stay. The room itself was large, clean and quiet with a huge, comfortable bed and a small private balcony. Breakfast was very good, with a wide range of hot food (a la carte on weekdays, buffet at the weekend), cereals, bread, crumpets, delicious homemade pastries, cheese and fruit etc. We also ate at the hotel restaurant one night, which was pleasant but unremarkable. Overall, this was a great base for exploring the Peak District by car - it has plenty of parking - with many stunning sights and walks within easy reach, including Dovedale and the River Dove, Chee Dale, the River Derwent and Cromford Mills. There are also a couple of very good restaurants within easy walking distance in Matlock Bath.
Where modern heritage meets a warm Derbyshire welcome. Oakhill is a beautiful Grade 2 Listed (Georgian style) house built by the Arkwright family in the mid 19th century, as a private family dwelling....

I came after a party at Crich, and stayed the night so that I could visit the industrial archaeology in Bullbridge. I introduced myself at the bar. I checked into my room and was able to go for a walk before breakfast whilst it was nice and quiet, and, although I couldn't find how to open the door after using the pass key, (a kind member of staff helped me), I was able to gain access to my room. I was able to have 'poached' egg-on-toast for breakfast. I very much liked the photographs on the walls celebrating the industrial past of Bullbridge.

Upgraded our room.very comfortable.good views.a big shout out for Fiona on reception.had a meal in restaurant really good menu food is excellent. breakfast was cooked fresh good selection.
Perfect self catering accommodation. Everything we needed and more! Not your basic self catering accommodation. There was care of detail with nice home from home comforts such as plush cushions cozy wool throws and pleasant decor. Everything seemed to have been thought of to make the stay comfortable. We had a very rainy weekend so relied on the accommodations comfort and facilities as we were inside for a lot of the weekend. It didn’t disappoint! Plus a lovely country pub with delicious menu and friendly welcoming ambience just a few steps away. Staff were attentive and couldn’t do enough to make our stay perfect. All in the beautiful surroundings of the Peak District and a short drive to the lovely town of Wirksworth, historic gem Cromford village and lively Matlock bath! Perfect ! We didn’t want to leave and will definitely come back to the Bear!
Highly recommend
