My review is based on this being a hotel at the lower end of the market and not a 5 star hotel. The hotel doesn't look much from outside but inside it has been refurbished and everything was bright and new. I would not recommend the location if you don't have transport or want to be close to town, but for me it was perfect. I needed somewhere for an overnight stay en route to Switzerland from the UK and this location close to the motorway with free parking was ideal. The room was basic but was fine for an overnight stay. It was very clean and comfortable and showed no signs of wear. The staff were welcoming and efficient. Overall I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was quite a bit better than I had imagined and I would certainly stay there again if my travels take me that way.

Val de Vesle was charming. It was lush, green, with access to hiking trails in the forests adjacent to Verzy and Verzenay. It was close to Reims (20 minutes by car) so provided plenty of opportunity to sightsee in the historic city. We ate in Verzenay at a local pizza restaurant and enjoyed the thin crust pizza. Getting around Verzenay was easy as there's little traffic. We visited the lighthouse and wine museum and found both of them very interesting in providing information about the history of the area.

Epernay, about 30 min drive, is a great town for champagne tasting and drinking!
Reims, only 20 min away, is a beautiful surprise. With a huge cathedral in the middle of the city that looks like the Notre Dame in Paris, the city has a very romantic allure. Reims has great places for dinner and drinks.
The national park naturel régional de la Montagne de Reims is great for hiking and walking, with beautiful views of the vineyards.
All in all a great place to stay in the Champagne region!
