One of the major seaports connecting France and England, Saint Malo is Brittany’s most visited town and a tourist destination in its own right.
The Old Town overlooks the English Channel and is completely surrounded by restored walls. You get a great view of them if you arrive on the ferries from England to St Malo (either direct or by the Channel Islands). Once an island, this citadel now shelters behind it the hundreds of sailing boats bobbing in the modern harbor.
Within the Old Town are bars and restaurants serving oysters from nearby Cancale, and many of the St Malo hotels. The most notable sights are the cathedral with its colorful, stained-glass window, and the castle - site of the town's museum.
The beaches are sandy, though the water is somewhat bracing. A causeway leads to Grand Bé, a rocky island housing the tomb of Chateaubriand, its most famous son. To the south is the 14th-century Solidor Tower, a remarkable collection of artifacts from voyages around Cape Horn. Further inland is Labyrinthe du Corsaire, a huge maze that will keep kids busy for hours.
In the Rance River, connecting the sea to Dinan, is the world’s first tidal power station. The road over it leads to Dinard Airport, the closest to Saint-Malo.

The walk around the walls was stunning, the views were beautiful. A walk out to the Fort Nationale at low tide is interesting. Find out about St Malo's history then submerge yourself in the streets . It's fascinating. There's lots of lovely shops and restaurants. The beaches are beautiful. The aquarium is fabulous, don't miss out the nautical bus. That's worth your entrance fee alone.

The old town has been brilliantly restored after the war and is a great place to wander around and also find god places to eat. Great beach on the doorstep and boat trips to nearby places including Dinard and the old city of Dinan up the river Rance (recommended). Easy to get around, but the pavement is irregular (stones) and less ideal for people with mobility issues. We ate at Hotel Les Chiens du Guet which was good and not too expensive. We also recommend Boulangerie Madlenn Intra. Visit to the Cathedral and the Fort National are worthwhile. We were there in early June so not too busy but even so can get busy during the day in intramuros.

Saint Malo is very strong in marketing.
Saint Malo is very strong in marketing. The pirate image is fake. There is no life inside the city walls: after 7 p.m. there is no one on the streets. But if you would like to watch Mont Saint Michel, this town is a good choice to sleep, imho it is still better than somewhere near MSM.

Saint Malo is among my top favourite destinations in France.
Saint Malo is among my top favourite destinations in France. From the charming ramparts of the walled city to the majestic feeling of walking over seabed along the Sillon Beach (Plage du Sillon). From the exquisite savours of the local cuisine to the relaxing treatments at the local spas. Have your camera ready: the sun sets with pomp and circumstance in Saint Malo!
A comfortable hotel, run by a friendly owner. Hotel de la Mer is located in a pleasant district of St Malo, just a short - and very pleasant - walk away from the walled city. The proprietor is very friendly and is willing to go out of his way to ensure that guests feel welcome and that their requirements are fully met. The hotel bar is welcoming and friendly and there are several excellent restaurants within the immediate vicinity.
This is the type of hotel you love to discover. Perfectly located inside the old city and with a garage, it offers everything you need and I am not even mentioning the amazing staff. On business I try to use hotel chains but made an exception in this case because of the location. I was not disappointed at all because as a whole the hotel was simply perfect. There is even a beach close a few steps away but no time to enjoy it.
The hotel is located in the beach of Saint Melo. It is clean and staff is very friendly and helpful. However, we had purchased one of the smaller rooms. It had literally no windows. So small even for 2 people. It was not possible to stand both for me and my wife at the same time. Considering it is quite expensive, the value for money is not good. If I go Saint Melo again, I'd stay in a hotel cheaper.
The location is very convenient for those who want to walk around the wall of the old town after dinner. It takes 2 mins walk to a carrefour supermarket, 5-10 mins walk to the center of the old town. Will definitely choose this hotel again if I come back for the beautiful beach and old town! By the way, the speed of the wifi is among the best I have experienced in hotels in France.
In Saint-Malo for a conference. Location was perfect right next to the conference center. From a tourist perspective it was also perfect, right at the seaside and less than 5 minutes from the walled city and all it's amenities. The building itself was also beautiful. We didn't register it properly before we arrived but it is an amazingly beautiful building.
Perfect location! The hotel is perfectly positioned for easy access to the historical walls of St. Malo, the beach, and some of the best restaurants / bars to eat at. The old town is not big, but this is definitely the corner you want to be in. Our room had an amazing Seaview, the perfect view first thing in the morning, and when going to sleep at night.
This is a budget hotel located 10 - 15 minutes walk from the old town. There were the usual facilities including a buffet breakfast and free parking. The old town is walled with narrow streets so it is best to walk via the commercial harbour and ferry port to explore the historic town.
Good breakfast, easy free parking right outside the hotel and kind staff.
Saint-Malo old town/Intermural and its beaches 10 minutes drive The hotel’s location isn’t charming but conveniently situated with a super market across the road and shopping within a couple minutes drive.
Breakfast was mostly your typical continental but with hot bacon & scrambled egg on offer too. You could help yourself to coffee 24 hours too. Location was perfect for the ferry service out of St Malo and also not far away you could visit the famous walled city.
Excellent location within the old city walls. Easy check in and check out....room very spacious, comfortable and clean...and quiet, considering that 2 different events were happening at the hotel. Definitely a good choice to visit Saint Malo
We drove so information from hotel as to best parking location and access out of office hours was excellent. Room was very nice, spacious and great location, all around excellent experience.
Would love to have stayed longer
The place is amazing and unusual, not just your regular boring apartment or hotel room. It's full of weird and beautiful artifacts and located in the heart of Saint-Malo. Very advisable for everyone travelling with friends!
Great location in the walled city of Saint Malo. Really great staff who were helpful throughout our 2 night stay. I appreciated storage of our 2 bikes and good advice on places to eat. Hotel was spotlessly clean
The lady that met us was lovely, friendly and so helpful could not do enough for us. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in France. The bed was comfy, the shower was very good overall a great hotel.
Amazing location, right in the center of town, this hotel is a lovely quiet place to get away. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again!
