Lyon is a gastronomic centre with a pretty architectural façade ranging from antiquity to modern day. Place Bellecour is centrally located between the Saône and Rhône Rivers in the 2nd arrondissement and opens out into major shopping streets.
On the banks of the Saône lies the district of Vieux Lyon, a great example of the Renaissance and full of museums such as the Lyon History Museum. Winding your way through the beautiful streets you can make your way up to the spectacular white-stone Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and look down over the city.
There is a lot going on in the main park of Lyon, Parc de la Tête d'Or, which is home to a zoo of exotic animals as well as various sports facilities and a large lake for boating. Boats of a different description are docked on the banks of the Rhône River; they host parties late into the night.
For a taste of tradition, Lyon’s famous bistros, or Bouchons Lyonnais, provide a cosy atmosphere for some of the best in French gastronomy. Plan your perfect holiday in one of Booking.com’s 130+ hotels, apartments or guest houses.

Fantastic city, the two rivers make each bank and adjoining arrondissements like their own worlds but with the beautiful bridges that inter- connect they are linked. The old town with the views is stunning, for a little peace in that part of the city head to Place St George adjacent to the funky foot/cycle suspension bridge.
We don't do museums and that stuff but do go to the park at the Musée de Confluences where the rivers Saone and Rhone meet and if you can at sunset. Lyon has the most incredible light and with the backdrop of the western hills it's awesome.
People seemed friendly with a great mix of cultures and languages.
Public transport system is super easy with cheap ticketing.

Lovely safe city, very walkable.
Lovely safe city, very walkable. Spoiled for choice for food from the St Antoine food markets to top end restaurants. Found everyone to be friendly and welcoming. Good to walk along the Rhone up to the park. Lots of shops too - in the main areas and some nestled along some back streets.

Lyon is an underrated destination.
Lyon is an underrated destination. Its gorgeous with historical architecture. People are genuinely nice and helpful. Loved how multicultural and mutiracial the city is! Food is good, especially French based cuisine. do seek out the more innovative restaurants that offer a new direction to their classical cuisine. it's a walking city, so be ready with your walking footwear! it's also photogenic so casual to serious photogs will love it. while the tram was perfect, we did use uber quite a bit and it was affordable vs. other cities. Book a guided foot tour, visit the Les Halles Paul Bocuse, eat at a classic bouchon, visit the two gorgeous cathedrals, especially book the tower tour of Notre Dame!

The Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon is a great place to visit; it has an impressive collection of art, ranging from Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome to the Impressionists and contemporary art. It is worth visiting and spending a few hours there. Additionally, there is a lovely garden in the courtyard.

Lyon is a lovely city with a good mix of museums, good restaurants, scenery (beautiful views from Fourviere where Roman ruins are as well as the Basilica). We loved our meal at Le Pique-Assiette in the old town, just wandering around the narrow lanes of the old town, seeing the puppets strike the bells in the Guignol Clock, and entering some of the fascinating treboules. Lyon has an excellent metro and bus system.
Our visit to the centre for Resistance and Detention was so interesting, with an excellent collection of memorabilia, finishing with the short movie on Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon. Do take the audio-guide which is a great help.
I would have liked more time to wander through the Croix Rousse area and visit the Musee des Confluences.

For a major city centre there were a surprising number of boarded up properties and damaged shop-fronts. Food in the old town was plentiful and very good as long as one avoided the restaurants or bars specifically designed to attract English tourists.
We walked everywhere, except when we used the Funicular - it was a very hot couple of days!
The Roman Museum was a standout and made the whole trip worthwhile, the Museum of Beaux Arts well worth a visit. Would I go again? Only if I was going past for some other reason...
The location was perfect, very easy to reach the the city center and it was next to the Train Station (very good to take the TGV or any other train to visit cities around Lyon, as well as to take the express tram to the airport). The staff was very polite and helpful. The room was large, modern, comfortable and clean. The ammenities available are from an excellent French brand. For my future times in the city, I'd stay for sure in this hotel.
Hotel was clean and nice. Small rooms, but real clean and cozy. Just what you need to sleep and take a shower. We habe been there with 4 kids, 6 adults. We had family rooms, everything ok. Staff was speaking Englisch which is really a plus for a hotel in France, whee mostly they don‘t want/can‘t speak Englisch.
Also the hotel was near to the city center- walking distance!
I got trap in Geneva after a day trip because of a transport strike in France, so I couldn’t make the check out on time with all my stuffs in the room. The guys from the reception keep everything and they didn’t charge me for the late check out. Plus the commodities of the place are amazing and the beds are very comfy. Location 10/10
Great location which is central to all the places to visit with great access to the underground and walkable distance to many visitor attractions. The hotel is a hidden gem, very unique and lots of surprises. You feel that you are living in France.
