The Villa Chanteraine was excellent! I booked it for five days for vacation primarily to do the D-Day events near those World War II sites. It’s about an hour drive from most of those areas so it was a good location. The driving was fine, not a lot of traffic and I didn’t have to pay tolls. I came from a visit from Mont Saint Michel and it’s also about an hour away from the villa. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the town about a mile down the road, Villedieu-des-poiles (forgive my spelling!) where they makes bells for churches and also have a great art district and shopping and some nice restaurants. It’s a very picturesque town! And the house is beautiful and in the county, but also near the motorway and several major roads. So you get the best of both worlds!
Chantal and John are the owners (Chantal is French, John Welsh, and both speak some English and French) and they are so nice and helpful! They told me about the little town or I would have known nothing about it and maybe wouldn’t have visited otherwise. They gave me restaurant recommendations, they talked to me about my D-Day plans and gave me advice on things that were going on and less well known WWII sites I didn’t know about! They had books and maps that they let me borrow to read up on it myself! They told me about their favorite things in Paris when they learned I would be going there afterwards. They were very nice and welcoming! Chantal made breakfast every morning, ham, cheese, lots of bread, butter, marmalades, yogurt, boiled eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice and usually some type of fruit. She also is very flexible about when you want breakfast served.
Anytime I had questions or needed anything they were helpful and catered to my needs. I really appreciated that!
If I ever come back to Normandy, I would most likely try to stay here again, because it was an excellent stay and staying at the Villa Chanteraine definitely helped make the experience enjoyable! :-)

Quality of this level is a rare find. The smallish cottage is absolutely perfect for a family of four, those with two children happy to share an actually lovely plush bunkbed in one of the two bedrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would easily seek Le Croix Douillet out again.
The owners are terrific, they reached out to ensure we had everything we needed, it was v thoughtful and showed they cared both about the property and our stay in it. We greatly appreciated the contact..
The open plan kitchen/dining/living room could not be nicer. We loved the living room part with small two seat sofa and two additional plush loveseats facing the working fireplace, stocked with wood below and a thoughtfully placed basket of wood tinder, fire-starter bricks and matches beside it. The chilly evenings were ready made for a wonderful fire in the lovely fireplace, we couldn't help but make use of it, a wonderful touch to a wonderful property.
The master bedroom is tastefully decorated, the second bedroom smallish but comfortable, given the bunk bed in it. The bathroom has (only) a modern, walk-in shower with a large rain-shower showerhead and separate hose shower handle. Note: there is no bath, but this adds to rather than detracts from the quality fit and finish, it couldn't be much nicer.
The large yard/garden to the rear has a lovely tastefully done covered patio seating area, with an unobstructed view of the surrounding countryside, and there's a small swing-set and slide for those with children. Evenings here on the back patio are wonderful.
This is an unusually lovely place, deserving both high marks - and your visit! :)

Excellent all the way around! The property owner is very responsive (just wished we had gotten to meet him 😉). He was so very helpful and accommodating. We were met on the property for a walk through, and were given some quick details about the community and Hambye.
The garden is amazing. We had a wonderful time walking about the property enjoying the scenery.
It was such a delightful stay! Thank you again and again. We WILL return often!
