Arcachon is a French resort on the Atlantic coast, about 55 km from the city of Bordeaux. Known for its oyster farms, Dune of Pyla, the long sandy beaches and the Victorian houses, this seaside city is a perfect holiday destination.
Set among the ocean and a pine forest, the breathtaking Great Dune of Pyla is the tallest sand dune in Europe. Reaching a height of about 107 metres and a length of 3 km, this natural miracle is a massive hill ideal for paragliding.
Popular for its oyster production, Arcachon was home to one of the first farms opened in 1849. Today about 60% of the oysters in France come from this region. Visit a waterside restaurant and savour delicious oyster dishes accompanied by a glass of fine French wine.
The Landes forest is the biggest maritime pine forest in Europe, filled with a wonderful natural park with cycle paths. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, apartment or holiday home in the area of Arcachon.
Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is in the small town of Mérignac. The airport has flights to big cities like Dublin, Barcelona, London and Lisbon.
Arcachon is an attractive town close to water. There are plenty of restaurants and shops although perhaps a little expensive especially for families. There are a couple of small supermarkets if you are self catering but again are quite expensive. Parking is not easy to find so pre booked parking is probably a good idea if you have a car with you. The train station is easy to find although we didn’t use it. Local roads are busy and very slow with lots of speed bumps and 30kmh speed limits.

Arcachon (despite our accommodation) was fabulous.
Arcachon (despite our accommodation) was fabulous. It's very chic with wonderful, stylish shops (Dune Blanches for delicious beignets, Savon de Marseilles and numberous well known clothing stores) and a lovely esplanade overlooking the beach. Countless lovely cafes. Great atmosphere. Other beaches are nearby. We had excellent seafood in restaurants, specifically Chez Pierre (plateau de Fruits de Mer) which were not cheap but to be expected in a tourist location overlooking the sea. The overall standard was very high and the town is smart and clean. A lovely coastal drive takes you to the famous Dune de Pyla with superb beach accesses along the way.
We definitely wanted to stay longer (in another apartment or hotel). We stayed at the end of May/beginning June (sadly for a weekend only) and are glad we avoided the high season which we believe gets very busy. Fabulous and can't wait to go back.

Very charming place.
Very charming place. It has a good train connections to Bordeaux and Bordeaux Airport. You can plan a trip to Dune du Pilat or Cap Ferret while in Arcachon.
Be aware that there is no currency exchange in the whole town and surrounding areas. The closest one is in Bordeaux.

Arcachon is a rather unique bay, very worth visiting.
Arcachon is a rather unique bay, very worth visiting. It has great nature and wildlife (birds), in addition to interesting early 20th century architecture. The area is quaint and good humored with lots of families staying and visiting the area. Access can be congested during rush hour and on top vacation days! The food is outstanding, both in restaurants (we recommend Le Saint Ferdinand! Great seafood!) and at local food stores and bakeries!
Climbing the Dune du Pilat is a must with phenomenal 360 degr. views!
The boardwalk in Arcachon proper along the bay is gorgeous!

Attractive location and a good place to stay.
Attractive location and a good place to stay. We wanted to visit Bordeaux but didn’t want to stay in the city. Arcachon has a good regular service by train into the city and this suited us well.
You need to know that boat trips around the bay have to be booked in advance and will cancel your booking if there are too few passengers. We didn’t manage to get a successful booking.
Arcachon is a seafood paradise for those wanting oysters, crustaceans and fish. It’s also more expensive, we assumed because it’s a tourist haven.
I am sorry to say, but i did not like anything but the location of the property.
It is totally outdated, dirty, not renovated for a very long time. Space is scarce. Our room was handed to us without being vacuumed - full of hairs and sand. Just awful. Personal not particularly helpful. It seems it is just exploited without any reinvestment. It is understaffed. Reception was available only like after 11 am- 12 pm. I am sorry, but i would not recommend it at all. there are other see front properties in Arcachon to check.
The hotel is nice. I recommend it without reservations. We had a quiet, spacious suite with a balcony and a well equipped kitchen. The bathroom had a shower and a bath. The toilet was separate from the bathroom. Every space was well designed and clean. I liked a good taste, low key ambiance of the hotel. And the location was a short and pleasant stroll to everywhere: the beach, shopping, restaurants, cozy squares. I would like to come again to Arcachon and stay at Residhome.
stayed in apartment 4
great view of the port and the Arcachon basin
close to shops and restaurants in the port area-approx 20 minute walk to Arcachon centre on a wooden walkway along the back of the beach
no balcony but windows open wide to lean out and take in the air and the view
modern contemporary designed very small studio with a comfortable bed and good wardrobe space
bar and restaurant underneath the apartment handy for drinks overlooking the bay
Location was very good and centrally located, Arcachon is a really nice village, we will be back.
Service was great: airco ;-), coffee Nespresso cups, Palais des Thes tea, free sparkling water, really nice staff
The room is small but very functional, for a few days there a some shelves where you can put your clothes.
50 mins by train from Bordeaux, in summer I would advise to go to Arcachon to the beach and get out of the hot city.
rooms : not the most modern one BUT you have all needed inside even a dishwasher. Terrasse is nice also depends where you have the view and the season of the year you re going there choose sea view (side street) or casino side or town side.
For couple with 2 kids it just PERFECT size and Location just 50m from central Arcachon beach and you have supermarket also very near walking 100m even if you arrive by train is near and easy.
Great stay! The hotel is recent or has been renovated. It is located a good 15-minute walk from the train station but has very easy access to the Port and beach. The room was spotless. I very much appreciated that a coffee/tea service was offered. The staff was also nice and helpful. My request for late check out was accommodated although during a busy season. I would stay again next time I visit Arcachon.
Best location, right on the beach in the center of Arcachon, close to restaurants, market and shops, as well as the place to go for a boat trip. The apartment itself is very cosy, spacious enough, clean. we truly enjoyed our stay there and would definitely recommend this place!
Although we are not the "camping kind of people", we really liked this experience. Cozy, close to the center of Arcachon, equipped with everything you need, nice socializing area. Great for families! We would definitely recommend to visit this place when being in the area.
Absolutely splendid stay at this hotel! Impeccable service, luxurious amenities, and stunning views made our visit unforgettable. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully designed. Can't wait to return
Located very central in Arcachon, close to the beach, restaurants, etc. Spacious one-bedroom apartment with a large unfoldable sofa bed for a third person, and with flat TVs in both rooms. Kitchenette, relatively well equipped, quiet place in the night.
Loved the location, loved the hotel. Beds were so comfy. Staff were so friendly and helpful. The town closed the entrance to their parking lot, so they gave us vouchers to keep in our car for parking charges.
The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, it's a charming hotel and it's located in a less touristy part of Arcachon which I loved. It's located near the port neighborhood with plenty of restaurants nearby.
The hotel was very nice. Pool was small but clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The area where the hotel was located was beautiful, quiet and interesting though a good walk uphill from Arcachon.
We had a comfortable stay at your hotel! The staff was friendly, the room was spotless, and we had a prking place. Thank you to your team for making my experience memorable. Looking forward to returning!
It is a modern, clean and comfortable hotel in a perfect location to explore Arcachon. The underground parking was absolutely necessary and available. The room has a balcony.
