Stunning hotel Traditional and Classy A beautiful room with the most comfortable bed and a large bathtub The food in the restaurant was amazing both breakfast and dinner were well worth the price A pool was available but unfortunately it was raining when I arrived A great place to stay at the end of the Camino There is a shuttle service from the centre of Santiago to the hotel but unfortunately I was not made aware of this at the time of booking and even more unfortunately had to walk to the hotel ( after a 16 mile day ) due to a lack of taxis …. FAQs about hotels in Santiago de Compostela

A Valuable City with Rich History

The city of Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and the place where the Apostle St. James is buried. The city’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its distinguished old monuments around the Cathedral and the tomb of St. James.

Made of granite, the spectacular Baroque facade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela features massive bell towers and statues of St. James. The Obradoiro facade of the Cathedral is one of the most exceptional examples of the Spanish Baroque period.

Surrounded by magnificent buildings, the monumental square of Plaza do Obradoiro is one of the most historic squares in the world and the heart of Santiago. You can stay in one of the hotels, guest houses or apartments Booking.com offers nearby this majestic square.

The final destination of the Medieval pilgrimage route (El Camino de Santiago), this city is the best place to enjoy fresh fish and traditional Galician bread. Galicia is the seafood capital of Spain and the right place to savor Salpicón de Mar (seafood salad) and Pulpo á Feira (octopus cooked with salt).

The Christian pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James passes by Santiago de Compostela Airport, which is 16 km away from Galicia’s capital.

It was both the completion of one and the start of another Camino . Beautiful old town with an amazing cathedral. Very commercialized catering with trivia shops for the pilgrims detracts somewhat from the beauty and uniqueness.

I loved Santiago de Compestela, in spite of the rain!

I loved Santiago de Compestela, in spite of the rain! It was an honour to be there after 6 walking days from Sarria (115km) The Cathedral is amazing! Lots of cafes and shops selling souvenirs. Prices all very cheap! I’ll be definitely returning!

We love the Spanish culture, especially the food.

We love the Spanish culture, especially the food. There are hundreds of bars and restaurants in Santiago, all up small cobbled streets. The architecture is stunning and we did the train trip around which for €6 was great value and great to find out a few facts as well as see more of the area. There are many parks in the area and we walked everywhere, feeling safe even late at night. We would have a drink at hotel Reis which is the largest and oldest hotel off the square, it’s a great place to take in the atmosphere and watch the sun come down.

Santiago de Compostela exceeded my expectations.

Santiago de Compostela exceeded my expectations. The architecture of the town is lovely and the Cathedral is amazing. It's quite walkable but be prepared for several hills within the city center. And there are multiple Michelin starred restaurants to enjoy at prices much lower than in Madrid or any US city. The seafood is top notch! We enjoyed Santiago as much as Seville, Madrid and Barcelona.

This is not a 5 star hotel for either accommodation or service. We were not allocated a junior suite. The room we had was shocking by any standard. Tiny, dark with shabby curtains and stained rugs. The bathroom was small and narrow. A completely separate room next door to the bedroom had a sofa and TV but so dark the lights had to be switched on all the time. Unbelievable. The hotel was full and staff were tense and rushed. We reserved a time for breakfast but still had to wait for a table. The hot food we ordered was cold when it arrived and so were the pots of coffee and hot water. However the self service buffet had a very good selection of fruits, cheeses etc. Overall shocking standard for a 5 star hotel.

    It is a beautiful city.

It is a beautiful city. The ancient buildings and streets are immaculate. They have maintained their city to a very high standard. Many of the visitor attractions are free, something not too common today. The food is very reasonable and of a very good standard. It is a place of joy….

A lovely boutique hotel very well situated within the city. Friendly , helpful , unpatronising staff who spoke good English . Loved the little touch’s of fresh flowers and the rose in our room smelt divine. Having just completed part of the Camino with my grown up children ,it was a relief to have a nice hotel to complete our stay in Spain. Very nice breakfast on Saturday morning.
