The city of Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and the place where the Apostle St. James is buried. The city’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its distinguished old monuments around the Cathedral and the tomb of St. James.

The Christian pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James passes by Santiago de Compostela Airport, which is 16 km away from Galicia’s capital.
I was very impressed both of Santiago and the whole Galicia.
I was very impressed both of Santiago and the whole Galicia. It is a very green area, with wonderful architecture and landscapes. The city is not big, but is very nice. For sure, the most impressive thing is the Cathedral with its museum, all related to the Camino and to the Saint Jacob. If you has time a trip around the ocean coast it is also recommended.

Visit the cathedral and the Old Quarter. Listen to " La Tuna" late in the main square and eat in one of the many restaurants along the old pebbled streets. Just beautiful!

Santiago de Compostela is the perfect destination for those...
Santiago de Compostela is the perfect destination for those who want to slow down, be in the moment, and embrace peace and silence. The city is filled with wonderful churches, many of which play soft, relaxing music all day, creating an atmosphere of tranquility that soothes the soul.
One of the best things about Santiago is its historic center, which is almost entirely pedestrianized and covered with miles of beautiful arcades. No matter the weather, strolling through these ancient streets is a true pleasure—you can wander for hours, soaking in the history, admiring the stunning stone buildings, and simply enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the city.
The people are genuinely friendly, and the city is filled with pilgrims of all ages, bringing an inspiring sense of journey and purpose. The food is delicious and affordable, the wine is excellent, and the tempting sweets are everywhere—it’s impossible to resist!
The only downside is that there are no early morning buses from the city center to the airport, so if you have an early flight, you’ll need to take a taxi, which costs around €26. Also, a heads-up—local buses don’t accept credit cards, and many small shops don’t either. I wasn’t carrying any cash, but I was incredibly lucky to meet a kindhearted couple who generously paid my bus fare from the airport to the city. God bless them!
Overall, Santiago de Compostela is a city that invites you to slow down, reflect, and immerse yourself in its peaceful, historic charm. A truly unforgettable place!

This is a very nice little hotel close to the centre of the city, a short stroll away from the cathedral and well placed for and all the main tourist attractions. We stayed there twice, once at the start and again at the end of walking the Camino Frances. Breakfast is more generous than is the norm in Spain, including boiled eggs, meats, cheese, toast, croissant, orange juice and coffee or tea. The staff are very gentle, welcoming and pleasant. The rooms are small but good, both had excellent showers. We would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is nicely located between the train station and the historical center of Santiago. It's also strategically located nearby some places where excursions start from (e.g., Praza de Galicia). It also has few nice bars and bakeries in the surroundings (more affordable than in the city center). The staff was very friendly and helpful all the time. We found the room quite spacious and comfortable, with enough place to open the suitcases. The bathroom was big and nicely furnished (even with a convenient bidet).
The breakfast was well worth it. We were served a delicious set of eggs, with bread and pastries along with our choice of coffee or tea. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They gave good recommendations and paid parking is right next door with free parking accessible within a ten minute walking range. We have travelled to many parts of Spain and of all the hostels and airbnbs we have tried, this location topped it all.
The hotel is located in a very good position… so close to the cathedral and to the city center… Mary, the receptionist was so kind and so polite… she upgraded us to a better room with view and balcony… breakfast was really good. The right place to rest once you ended your camino de santiago.
