STAFF AND PRICE WERE OK. THE DESK STAFF HAD NO IDEA ABOUT WHAT WAS ON IN THE CENTRE. THEY COULD NOT SUGGEST A GUIDE. TOLD US TO USE GOOGLE. BY CHANCE WE FOUND AN EXCELLENT GUIDE BY WALKING UP TO ANOTHER GUIDE NEAR THE CATHEDRAL. HE PHONED HER.
I GAVE HER NAME TO THE HOTEL LATER. I SUSPECT IT WENT INTO A DRAWER AND WAS LOST.

The city of Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and the place where the Apostle St. James is buried. The city’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its distinguished old monuments around the Cathedral and the tomb of St. James.
Made of granite, the spectacular Baroque facade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela features massive bell towers and statues of St. James. The Obradoiro facade of the Cathedral is one of the most exceptional examples of the Spanish Baroque period.

I enjoyed spending time in the Cathedral, which was what I had come for. The spiritual connection was superb, and the Holy Mass in the Cathedral, though in Spanish, was always enjoyable. Staff at the Cathedral were always courteous and helpful.
The museums and little cafes around make the place very enjoyable.
My hotel was very near everything, bus stop 100m.

Personal challenge physically and mentally.
Personal challenge physically and mentally. I appreciated being "unplugged" from the world, having also restricted contact with family to the bare minimum so as not to be distracted. Each day was a challenge - not even being sure where your next bed would be or what it would be like. It's a priviledge to share the journey with other pilgrims even though I was on my own. I was never lonely. A shared journey with so many like minded people - see if the Camino "calls" to you and then plan accordingly. You won't be disappointed

Beautiful town with plenty of history.
Beautiful town with plenty of history. Historical town is just wow. I was there in October and there were many people so can imagine that it is even busier in high season.
Unfortunately I had rain during my visit so was not able to fully submerge into town but it means I have the reason to comeback.
Food in Galicia including Santiago is amazing. Price vary from very expensive to less dare. I did not find that cheaper food is worse just take time to research and find cheaper place.

A beautiful city with lots and lots and churches, chapels, museums, spontaneous street music groups (I think they are called Tuna) and restuarants. Accommodation is usually available except when there are a few similtaneous functions eg when I where there they were having a film festival, a motor bike race, a religious feast day and a national holiday all in the same week - the pilgrims who end they camino in Santiago were hard pressed to find affordable accommodation in the city - one lady I knew ended up going to another town 50 km away in order to secure accommodation over night.
I loved the pilgrims museum and of course the Cathedral in Santiago with its impressive botefumerio is not to be missed. Bus tours to nearby towns and villages are so full of history and great information. I wish that I could have done more.
There are so many eateries and all are good - I fell in love with Spain.

Santiago is a beautiful small city with an ancient past as the destination of the Camino. There are always huge numbers of pilgrims which add a special flavour and it can be very moving to see the reactions of those finishing their pilgrimage journey. However, it does mean the Cathedral is always very full and you have to be prepared to queue either to attend the services or simply to visit as a tourist. Galicia is also a very wet region so be prepared for a lot of rain in almost any season.

It's a big pleasure to write opinion about this place :)
After second Camino this was my fourth night in Santiago. After three different places we looked for quite area but close to main square. I'm quite demanding traveller and I check opinions carefully before book something in Spain. Someone wrote that this is the best place in Santiago to stop and I agree. This was excellent choice! Very spacious room with amazing view on Cathedral, exactly like from photos. I highly recommend!
Very nice private, four room small hotel. Nice, very clean room with private bath, shared kitchenette and lounge area. Maria personally received me and managed the daily cleaning etc. I found the facilities very nice, excellent value and Marie and Jose charming and helpful hosts. I was there four nights and the location was excellent for all old town Santiago attractions.
This hotel was perfectly situated in the old town of Santiago de Compostella.
