Casa La Orilla 2, hotel in Playa Honda

Located in Playa Honda, 500 metres from Playa de Guacimeta and 1.6 km from Playa la Concha, Casa La Orilla 2 provides accommodation with amenities such as free WiFi and a flat-screen TV.

We knew booking it that it would be small for a family of 5, but we were only staying one night. It was clean and comfortable. More ideally perhaps for a family of 4

Paradise room near the beach, hotel in Playa Honda

Situated in Playa Honda, Paradise room near the beach is a recently renovated accommodation, 700 metres from Playa de Guacimeta and 1.6 km from Playa la Concha.

The contactless check-in was brilliant, absolutely no fuss at all. The room was immaculate, the towels and bedding were also lovely. Kettle in room to make your own coffee and some free bits and bobs. Little outer terrace ideal for getting some work done or just having a read. Decent amount of pillows and a very comfy bed was very much appreciated! Plenty of clean cutlery and plates downstairs and the mini-fridge in the room was very handy.

Really easy to get to using public transport - no need to pay for taxis. I didn't hire a car this trip, but I did note that it was very packed in terms of parking spaces, you would struggle to get a parking spot in the residential areas. Plenty of shops to choose from for groceries and there is a shopping mall with lots of clothes shops and food outlets. You can walk to Arrecife, the capital, in less than an hour along the sea front, it's a flat walk and really enjoyable. There are regular, extremely cheap, very clean and efficient buses, if you want to take a bike/e-scooter/surfboard, you just pop them in the bottom of the bus, just like the boot of a car, but huge! Note that buses will not accept notes bigger than 10 Euros under any circumstances and there is no contactless/card payment option. I visited the local bar and managed to get a few games of pool in with the locals, all extremely friendly and able to understand my GCSE level Spanish. Finally, it's great fun sitting on the beach right under the flight path of the landing planes, they seem HUGE and they are incredibly loud! There are no night landings so you don't get your sleep disturbed by the noise.

Playa honda is not for those who want a bustling tourist resort or all inclusive hotel. It's for those who want a taste of living amongst the locals and getting a taste for Canarian life. The restaurants are few but authentic and always welcoming. The shopping is by far the best on the island and everywhere else is in easy reach by bus, hire car or bike. I have seen comments on airplane noise and yes it's close to the airport, but long warm summer evenings watching the planes come and go.....appeals to some, including me.

Playa Honda is a traditional town and doesn't have the hundreds of overseas tourists like the other resorts. The restaurants are frequented by locals and Spanish visitors however, the restaurants we visited we super friendly and welcomed non Spanish speaking visitors. The beaches are wide and go for miles. Do remember to take a hat and something to sit on because there are no umbrellas or sunbeds to hire. There are lots of shops, supermarkets and a great bus service to take you to different parts of the island. Getting around Playa Honda is easy when you take note of the road names, its on a grid system and one way for cars.

Love the absence of big hotels, the town is typically Spanish. No cheap & nasty gift shops. Beaches unspoiled by regimented rows of sun loungers. Clean streets & promenade that stretches for miles along the coast.

The accommodation worked very well and the location was perfect. We had lovely walks along the coast and used very good public transport to visit a number of towns. The shopping centre and supermarket were close at hand. A lovely place to stay and very good accommodation.
