A city filled with culture and history, and on its way to becoming a lovely touristic spot.
Pros
- people are friendly (yes, even to Asians)
- there are much to see if you hire a car, as most of the touristic places are scatter in the city, not having someone to drive you (we booked through China Highlight, and the tailored-made package included a car, driver and the tour guide)
- so much closer to the Terra-Cotta Army and Hua Mountain (or Huashan) than the city centre (we stayed there for 2 nights, then tour to the city centre area and stayed there for another 2, which was the perfect plan, suggested by China Highlight, actually (sorry to sound like an advert for them [the catch is below])
- The hot spring at Angsana was perfect, and so much fun (and clean!)
Cons:
- Pollution - if you have a sensitive respiratory system, you may find yourself tearing, sneezing and your nose running like an open tap the whole time... which happened to one of us... and it's rough. (Note: he felt much better when we were in Huashan, but that's about it)
- China Highlight is fantastic, and it also costs about 2-3 times above the regular tours. Since it's tailor-made and suits the small group, we think it's still worth it (we have a mandarin speaker in the group, so language is not a barrier. If mandarin is an issue for your group, China Highlight is a no brainer, go for them).
