Monte da Japonica features rustic accommodation in a cottage and manor house, surrounded by a cork forest and with access to an outdoor swimming pool. The Alentejo property is 7.5 km from the Redondo centre and 48 km from the Spanish border.

All air-conditioned units feature 2 bedrooms, private bathroom and a flat-screen TV. The house and cottage have access to satellite TV while the lodge enjoys cable TV access.

Authentic Hacienda on a Cork farm in a great location of the Alentejo where you can kick back and relax. 30 mins to see great towns and old hill top villages. Or can simply stay by a stunning infinity pool looking over the countryside. It's quiet and a world away from busy urban life. The house we stayed in is the real deal with period fittings and furniture from the family who have owned the place for several generations. It is all set up to be a liveable home in a style reminiscent of an older era but still all the contemporary facilities you need. And so spacious.. We loved that aesthetic. You feel like this is a different culture and physical history to the one you have come from, staying not in a place reduced to bland ikea like ubiquity in decor or unspecified craft. It is naturally cool in the heat of summer and double glazed for winter. Outside courtyard with BBQ facilities for evening meals. The extra arrangements that Paul makes available such as tour of the cork farm or local Redondo potteries offer insight into the local Alentejo economy and way of life. Be prepared to drive a 1.5km unsealed road into the accomodation. It adds to the places isolation yet it is only 10 mins into the local town for supplies.

Paul is a wonderful host. He called to confirm our arrival time and was there to meet us when we arrived. His property is spectacular -- we had an entire guest house to ourselves in the middle of a sprawling cork forest in the Alentejo. We woke each morning to a view of the sunrise, enjoyed our morning coffee on a spacious patio, and watched the sunset and stars each night. Paul's three dogs were friendly and good company -- especially his border collie pup! Paul made us feel at home, making reservations for us for lunch at a nearby restaurant and for a cork safari tour operated by his brother. The facilities were great -- fully stocked and spacious kitchenette with hotplates, microwave, mini-oven, coffee maker and kettle and all the kitchenware we needed; large living/dining room with fireplace; large bedroom with a comfy bed and lots of surfaces to spread out; and two bathrooms with hot water and great pressure. The whole house has excellent radiator heating. When we asked if they happened to have a hypoallergenic pillow or blanket we could use, they found both and changed the bedding while we were out for dinner and offered us a HEPA room filter as well. We couldn't have asked for a more peaceful, relaxing, joyous time away!

A very interesting convent in lovely countryside. We could explore the historic building. We were here in November so didn’t get chance to use the swimming pool but that looked worth coming back for. There are a couple of great walks laid out in the Convent estate. We had a good dinner in the restaurant. The room and breakfast were excellent, staff very helpful. We have already recommended it to friends who also travel in the area.

Really charming building and location, we did a couple of hikes nearby, visited the Saturday market in Estremoz, played on the padel courts, enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and took a couple of board games with us to play one evening in the cosy area with a fireplace. A wonderful getaway weekend.

The Convent's historic nature is fabulous. Seldom have I been surrounding by such beauty. The Convent has been restored with great care and one feels as if they are stepping back in time. Abundant fruit trees surround the Convent and the pool creating an idylic setting.
